Unless it's a course with few places and loads of people wanting to do it, or medicine, it doesn't really matter what it says.

yeah true, write something generic like why you want to do the course, it will enable you to fufil your ambitions in life, you have great intrest in the subject ect.
its all a load of shit, as long as you have the money to pay the tuition the uni will let you in unless its a really good uni, in that case its down to your parents giving enough of a DONATION to get you in.
uni's shit, it will be a big dissapointment and you will question why on earth you are paying so much money to do a course were the content doesnt seem to teach you to do what you want to in any shape or form.
although you will have a good time going out drinking.
you can probs tell i think uni is shit. yes i go there presently.

If you can't write about yourself/big yourself up, then I don't really know what to suggest

lol i am not exactly a good writer! never could write an essay after reading a book or something.. thats something i alwaus strugeled with.
while uni may not teach u a lot, it gives u an expensive paper that will help to boost your wage..
starting wages for jobs i am looking at is 20k+ a year.
i understand that in 3 years i could get up to this wage without going to uni, but its the starting point that matters IMHO.

What do you plan to do at Uni? You will have to do essays and stuff.
Also, I've have borrowed the minimum amount of Tuition Fee loan & Maintenance Loan. My debt will be about £17k.
Really think about what you're doing

17k of debt will take sooo long to pay back and will most likely be a total waste of money.

the thing you have to think of is how many other students each year are going to come out of uni with that degree, it may get you a look in at the job but doesnt guarentee one at all, most of the time its just one of the pre-requisites for applying for a job, degrees are pretty much uneless now thanks to the govermerments amazing premise of getting every one to go to uni.
And yeah i would love to just drop out and get a half decent job now cant be fucked with uni dont care about the night life just want to get a job and buy a house ect unfortunetly cant do squat without a degree so im stuck finishing it.

I think 75% of degrees are a waste of cash. That's based on the number of people who do degrees only to get jobs they could have without one. However, if its for something worthwhile, e.g. maths, physics, chemistry, medicine, vet course, law, accountancy, etc etc, then its well worth going and you will undoubtedly see the benefits.

yeah hopefully in the long run ill get my PHD in pyschological councelling in the hopes of getting into the NHS, but its such a long way away and the first 3 year degree course is the most pointless thing in the world.

I know, it's ridiculous. My sister is earning £18k, so pays a certain % of £3k as £15k is the cut off for paying it back or not. She pays off about £300/year
tbh, I don't think of it like a debt hanging over me. You pay hardly any of it back AND it doesn't affect your credit rating.
daymoon - my parents paid my sisters tuition fees, as it was the old £1250/year upfront system, unlike now, which is £3k/year after you finish and start earning. The best thing they can do is put the money in some kind of savings scheme for 3 years and earn interest on it - it's pointless paying some of your tuition fees upfront. If you do that, you'll probably lose out on any Uni bursary

you do relize that you get charged about 4.9% compound intrest on uni loans now, currently at that rate the intrest on my loans is about £50 a month.
its really shit just another reason why uni sucks balls, only used to be about 0.9% intrest.
also when you do start paying it back even though you pay back monthly the money you have paid is only taken away from your balance anually so even thought your paying back monthly the total doesnt go down until the end of the year, so your paying more intrest all the way through the year full system fuckin stinks.

Basically, the new Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan is "Pay As You Earn, Not Pay As You Earn". If your sister graduated in the summer '08 or before, she would have had to pay (or your parents) pay £1250 for Tuition Fees up front, with no loan available.
Now, everything is loan based, unless you don't want it to be. However, if you don't take out the full Tuition Fee Loan, you aren't seen as "in need", and won't get a bursary from your Uni, which is basically free money.
If your parents are willing to pay the equivalent of what they paid for your sister, tell them to stick it in a savings account, and give it to you when you graduate. That is what my parents have/are doing as they had it saved already before I started.
Just makes financial sense. Better in your pocket than theirs (theirs being the government).

Yeah, but that is life. Every student is in the same situation. I'm not losing any sleep over it. It's the government which are going to have mountains of debt essentially.
It's thought some people won't even pay it all back before retirement.

lol yeah, I know. Is a bit wank. Like I said, because it's a government loan, it doesn't affect your credit rating, so importantly won't make a difference when applying for a mortgage) so it's the government which are losing out in my eyes.
As mentioned, my sisters pays about £300/year back. I remember working it out as £5/week.
