Now without sounding like a complete idiot, what do the speed limits actually mean? i.e. if i go over that does it just mean they wont grip well or that they're likely to blow out?
Need to make a 60 mile motorway trip and am not likely to have the proper tyre replaced in time so need to know if it should be ok or if i'm gonna die.
anyone know?

u will die. they have 70 KM/h not MP/H speed limit which is about 40 miles an hour. they are only meant to get u to the garage.

I had my space saver on my old focus for two days, I was commuting 120miles per day at the time and it was fine, I just stayed below 60mph and didn't try and out corner anything other than a shopping trolley.
Verdict: No Death

Had to use a space saver on my mum's old Punto. Rating was 40mph but it was fine at 70

You can do 50mph and 50 miles on a space saver wheel, safely.

on Pulling Power they did a spacesaver track test where they timed a car for a lap on normal tyres, then adding spacesavers lap by lap untill it had 4 on.
it slowed massively, was sliding everywhere, but was doing far more than 50mph and they didn't explode/delaminate/fall off/kill the driver etc.

Hasn't a mate got a wheel they'll let you borrow?
If you're struggling I have a 14" alloy you can borrow for a few days.

just be aware the police will pull you over if you're doing more than 40mph with one of these on...

what would make you want to risk it? it might be fine for a short burst but if something was in the road and you hit it, you'd be dead at that speed
oh and p.s. the ''my mate'' stories i've heard are always wrong.

its nothing to do with it exploding or anything. its just the fact that driving round with a tire that thin is dangerous.

Also it is illegal to have tyres or wheels on the same axle that are not exactly the same size as each other.
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.
