I've cut and pasted this from one of the threads on the RSOC here:

http://bbs.rsownersclub.co.uk/showthread.php?t=183482

One of the lads (who I presume works for Ford got to go to a presentation and spoke to Jost Capito himself) and here is some of the information (most of it's already known but thought I'd post incase anyone's interested and hasn't seen it:

Power and torque

300BHP 325lb/ft or 305ps 440Nm

0-62 5.9 seconds

Engine

Is a Volvo Hybrid it is not the same 300BHP motor that Volvo have in there big power car.

Gearbox and Clutch

Six speed with 1st and 2nd gear being shot peened to take the extra torque. The clutch is uprated version. The car will be electronically limited in 1st to avoid the gearbox from being shredded.

The feel of the clutch is stiffer than the original one on the MK1.

Colours

The only colours that are to be produced Green, Blue and White no other colours for 2009

When will the prices be announced should be mid December but still no official price.

Versions

There will be a standard one with the option of the Luxury pack to be added.

Number to be built
8000 over 2 years with 50% capacity to be produced for the UK.

Will another attempt be made on the ring for the record?

“Yes in spring as the Ring was to wet when the first attempt was made and the RS in its standard form will beat the Renault’s time as it has Porsche beating times”.

Why wasn’t the car made to be AWD?
“A number of reasons:-
1 they did attempt to make a AWD using the Volvo running gear and a 280BHP ST but the driving experience was not edgey enough and it did not handle as well as you would have expected
2 If the car had been AWD it would have attracted a much higher road tax in the UK (due to the extra weight) which is the biggest market the car has been designed for. As it stands the car is only 225g/co2 which is 1 gram higher than the current ST.
3 The cost of the AWD system meant that the car would not have been financially viable.
4 The performance gains from the AWD system were not enough to warrant further investigation.”

Heavier clutch than the horrible AP one in the mk1? Man, that's not going to be a good thing.

It's heavier than it needs to be. Uprated ones are often lighter.
