right as some of you may know i can never just keep a car and be happy. now i have the ibiza cupra, ive had thoughts on keeping it and modding it so i can see 240bhp but i always get to the point where i think i really cba spending loads on it and never really seeing any money back, and i drove a 200bhp cupra and i couldnt feel any difference when driving, just its obvious when side by side. anyway been looking at insurance on the vx220 for my 19th (n/a 2.2) and its only 300 od more quid than the cupra will be. also looking at the z4 2.5. what would you go for. i miss the fun from my 106gti too.

the vx isnt as fast as the top spec z4, as i raced one when i was picking up my side vents, off the mark i was quicker but when rolling at about 80 he was deffinatly faster, but not by much..

if your just using it to cruise with then the z4, if your wanting fun and better handling then the 220..

and dont be put off by ppl saying you dont want one unless you get the turbo, in the real world around a track the 2.2 is just as fast on a tight and twisty but on the straights the tubby does pull ahead abit better.

the na is lighter by 100kg and lots of the vx lot seem to think it handles better as standard, the springs that come on the bilsteins are abit stiffer on the na.

but back to your question..

for crusing and just general driving and good build quality = Z4
for everything else, fun, good handling, good off the mark grunt = vx220

Why would u want it too be tuneable??On the road with a good driver behind the wheel,it will probably leave most cars behind.

Dont think id have either of those, although im currently looking out the window where everythings covered in frost & thinking a 2 seater convertible wouldnt be all that much fun!!

Your not going to see the money back on any car either so just stick with the cupra!

will, the 2.2 is slightly tunable, as with most na cars you only start getting propper power figures with a s/c, ITB's or turbo conversions..

the main improvements atm seem to be

:- better induction kit (pipercross viper etc)
:- 2.4 manifold (loses a little low end torque but gives a good gain at the top end)
:- remove precat (not proven this does anything but it cant harm it by removing)
:- Dblias exhaust mani (brings back the low end torque and still keeps the high end power)
with those mods and a stage 2 remap your looking at 170ish bhp

atm thats it.. there is a piper 4-1 being develovped atm which will be better than the dblias one but we will have to wait and see..

lol, i would tend to agree tbh.

in honestly, it depends what you want, and what car you like the most.... i fell in love with the vx220 when the first one came off the production line.. and to this day i still love it just the same.. i look out of the window and just think that i finally have one and still love it just as much.

each time i drive it i just love it.. yea there are more comfy cars, better build cars, faster cars.. but atm i dont really care that much..

IMO abit of a dark horse that seems to get over looked and much better looking than earlier z3's:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/789849.htm
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/784835.htm

though if it has to be between a vx220 and a z4 then you have to seriously condsider if you could live with the vx220 for everyday use.

i know they are slightly more comfortable than an elise but after going for a passanger ride in an elise im not sure i could live with one for everyday use, very basic with hard seats and a hard ride and a pig to get in and out of, saying that it was fast and handled like nothing else i had been in

when i drove 5 hours yesterday from cardiff, i didnt once get back ache, or feel strained or anything, but the missis does get back ache in the passenger seat..

in the drivers seat you have a lumbar support (like a bag inside that seat that inflates and deflates) which can make it more comfy.

the vx unfortunatly isnt for everyone..

will mine cost me £10k with 19k on the clock in april 07 and its probably worth about 8.5 - 9ish now, but i recon once the country has picked itsself back up i could get what i paid for it. but i dont really plan on selling it so i aint fussed

i had the 1.2 corsa, then the punto gt (165bhp) then this...

i would say im a fairly competant driver, i know when and when not to act like a cunt, and i know how to handle a rwd car pretty well.

but... this car can bite, and people have written there cars off going 20mph round a corner in the rain and ending up hugging a lamp post.
