Mate had one of these and iirc, had new panel filter, upped the boost (and fuelling I think?) and a decat and it was fooking quick. Smoked like buggery too
He sold it and soon regretted it so is on the look out for another one lol.

is it the tdi or hdi?
The tdi is mechanical, so turnign up boost, etc can be done with screwdrivers

A lot of people will prob slate me for this, but DON'T use the Derv Doctor. That's who my mate used for a couple of bits and some advice to start with, and he was apparently the biggest prick my mate's ever met
There's a guy in Leeds (Called Joe I think) who my mate used for the rest of it and he said he really knew what he was talking about and was well priced.
pug306.net if not - theres loads of info on there.

I had 1 running 1.3 bar boost from just turning the fueling up and removing the on-boost fuelling float in the pump.It was a tad smokey but was well worth it.If you are doing it,make sure u fit a boost gauge to keep an eye on things and to make sure uv got the boost set ok.
Do u know what diesel pump u have??The 1 that looks like a space ship is the easiest to turn up.The other is a wee bit harder but not immpossible.
Do it,youll love it.

I use Joe, he is spot on and as said competitively priced too. http://www.jacmech.co.uk/
As corsasport 21 said, you need to know which pump it is, either lucas or bosch, then tweek the fueling.
apart from that a de-cat is a good cheap mod, think Joe does one for cheap, that frees it up a bit.
THen there is the airfilter, doesn't make much difference, however is worth fitting one to relocate it, as it sits really low down and can suck water in, many folk have fucked there engines up after going through big puddles etc!
