They've now found a draft of the policy saying that VAT will go up to 18.5% in 2011.

I'm of the opinion this has all been orchestrated by labour and the sun, throw in a wee dodgy phonecall scandal with a well known, much loved actor to take the heat off them while they fabricate some short term plans to 'get us out of this credit crunch' and hey presto you've managed to stay in next election.

You'll see a little bit more spin soon to cover the fact NI is going up, duty on fuel, cigs and alcohol is going up, as well as a few other 'stealth' taxes.

Its purely a ploy to persuade people they are doing something good to gain a few more voters in a hard time for their government, when in real terms they are going to fuck us all over even more.

The bad bit is it'll work in their favour because the majority won't have a clue whats going on.

The bit that makes me laugh is that it's to help the average family and such.

There is no VAT on children's clothes & food, the highest amount paid out for for most families.

They haven't got the foggiest of what to do imho.

They claim it's a mistake. Bit close to being a possibility for that. I don't trust any of them.

The drop to 15% won't do a thing. Shops will be that busy spending money on alterations to their systems they won't even be in a position to pass it on, nevermind want to for how much difference it'll make to them.

Exactly.

The cost to us to change all our prices would be huge, so we arent bothering changing any of our prices at all. And we're just a small 5 shop chain - the cost to larger stores that are used much much more will be stupidly large.

Yep - plus remember no VAT on food which is where most peoples incomes goes after mortgage. And NI will be increasing so the wage packet will be smaller, and duty on petrol, alcohol and cigs will go up so in reality they are going to end up costing you a lot more.

Slightly annoying when you've just paid 17.5% on VAT as part of a 5k engine rebuild...

Dont know why they just didnt do it all on income tax - fairest way imo. Lower income tax on those who earn under £20k and raise it on those who earn over £100k.

If you put the money straight into peoples pockets then they will start spending it.

we were at out accountants yesterday, he was saying they've lowered VAT, but businesses aren't obliged to pass the saving on, so therefore businesses are still charging the same amount, but just putting the price up of the product up enough so that they don't have to go through the rigmoral of changing all their prices. if that makes sense

Of course VAT is going to go up above 17.5% they have to pay back the extorniate loans somehow. the sad thing is many people believe it will just got back to 17.5. and will be shocked when it goes over that.

They would lose too much money that way. With them cutting VAT the government itself saves money on the million/billion pound + contracts they have with other organisations.

That has allsorts of consequences though, you'd have richer people leaving the country and poorer people coming in for a start.

I love these comments. Same was said when fuel prices hit an all time high. What people do not realise is that we pay VAT on everything. Thus, prices will increase yet again.

No, they have done that already.

Whilst under labour power, i've seen culture diminsh massivly, crime, attitudes, stabbings, all under labour reqime.

They've become dictators, telling us what we can and cannot do. Can't smoke here, can't smoke there, highest fuel charges in Europe, high taxes, high cost of living. The "normal" public gets shafted more and more each year on cost of living, houses, council tax etc etc...

Meanwhile, if your scum, dole benefits, living in a council house, with 15 kids, and earning more money than I do (of which we're all paying for), then thats ok, lifes good.

These de-generates then have children, with no parental skills at all, the children grow up into little fcuks, (the chav kind), and so the cycle continues.

Its just while we've been under labour, its got 10 fold worse. Because they fund the "lower class" (fuck Political correctness, these people are usually scum, the kind who'd beat you just to have your phone), and stitch up those normal folk trying to make a living.

What about war, the public votes NO to it, but hell, we want to kiss the USA's arse, so lets go anyway.

Labour is a joke, and i think most people (who are dole scum) will be voting elsewhere the next elections. I know I will be (not that I voted labour in the first place).

Speed cameras, road saftey "gubbins", political correctness, can't do that it'll offend 1 person, the word chav, the culture of chav, knifings, attitudes, all got much worse, under labour.

Problem is, ALL the parties suck, there isn't a decent one to vote for.

Who do you suggest replacing them with- our democracy is f u c k ed - I dont want labour, but I certainly dont want them replaced with Cameron, George Osbourne and all those other Tory c u nt s. There is no point in me voting Liberal because they are not capable of government and they have no chance in getting elected in my electoral area.

I effectively dont have a vote.
