Was talking to the g/f yesterday and we've decided to get away somewhere just before christmas
Been looking at hotels and found one in Thatcham which is apparently between Newbury and Reading.
Not planning on spending much time out of the room but anyone know if there's much to do round there?
Open to ideas on other places to go as well if anyones got any suggestions but don't really want to spend much more than £150 for 2 nights

TBH not much to do. You'd be better off going to the coast and just staying in a B&B mate.

Are you shitting me? Thatcham for a get away?
I used to live in Thatcham, place is full of squaddies or druggies, not sure which is worse.
If you want scenery don't go to Thatcham, what hotel is it? Not Berkshire Arms is it? See that's quite a nice place, but Thatcham isn't somewhere I'd go for a weekend away.
Reading is good for shopping, Newbury isn't unless you want to buy some curtains from Peacocks.
Reading is good for a night out, as long as you are prepared for a fight with a Polish/Albanian immigrant and want to be hassled by Elvis the local hero who wanders around bothering people with tales of how Elvis saved his life.
Then we have Ceaser a real life black man who hangs around the shopping centre offering 10 quid to smell childrens feet.
All in all, stay away, go down the coast.

Ollie speaks the truth though! in both cases!!
Reading has the river but other than shopping not much else
Newbury has the race course (horse) but no point going if there is no racing on!
have to say Bournemouth is the way forward!! been there many a time for a day out! and night life is entertaining enough to not want to call it a night once its too cold for the beach! take a look at what shows are playing, or even comical acts always seems to be posters up for something!

I have been staying in the Ramada Elcot (about a 5 min drive from Newbury), is a decent enough hotel, not sure on prices though.
