Just wondered if anybody was into it on here, I have been a few times at Buckmore Park now, and I'm going again this afternoon. Think of investing in a Rotax Max 125cc 2 stroke, be bloody fast compared to their slow 4 strokes!
Anybody?

Not had a go, but due to do some proper photography of indoor karting at Streatham in London.
Should be good, so long as theres enough light to take decent photos!

half pint?
I considered the rotax max series too.
Check youtube for vids. The racing pack is seriously busy - lots of karts on track at the same time, so most places are made by shunting each other off.

aPk come to Buckmore, it's outside so lots of light, and I want some decent pics
Yeah I didn't mean competitively as it looks hard and dangerous when you look at the crashes But I'm sure if it came to it I'd give it a go

My first time going:

Yeah I know that, but the initial outlay is the biggest amount. After that it's fuel/tyres and an engine rebuild every 50 hours, which is a long time really.

and paying to use the track. How much do they charge over there out of interest?

I don't know how much Buckmore Park open days are, but there is one in Thurrock that is £25 for the day. I guess if you did it regularly (every weekend or so) then yeah it could get expensive, but it'd just be a hobby for the time being.

I race in the BUKC (British University Karting Championship) for Swansea Uni, and we go to Buckmore Park every year with the Club 100 karts.
The track is awesome, although it was interesting when we went there last year - as you know Graham, half the track is in a big cut out in the banking, and all that was sheet ice as it had been a cold night, but the lower half of the track was perfect as it was in the sun. Try racing that track on slicks It was interesting, but amazing

Oh yes I know exactly what you mean! It was the same tonight! So much time lost through not being able to traction, one of these days I'll have a dry track!
That's cool though, how do you rate Buckmore? I find it technical but I've never been to another track to compare!
I now ache, I got 2nd place today, 1st was quick in fairness but he did like his dirty over/undertakes!

Pretty consistent with lap times really, apart from 3 bloody red flags, nobody could drive out there, I think I lapped a few people twice

I had a rotax max 125 breifly, a lot of fun, very fast, reckon it did 70mph+ awesome acceleration too. As said, quite an expensive hobby, good way too get into racing though...

Buckmore definitely is a technical track, not just flat out for most of it like some of the others we use (Whilton Mill, for example).
Buckmore is interesting coming down the hill past the pit entrance though - completely blind, and flat out. Had it in one of the rounds this year - come round there to an accident right ahead of you, and too recent for yellow flags to have appeared yet. Its scary as hell, as any lift off or steering adjustments will almost certainly put you in the barrier too

Yep! I had that happen to me, I was flat out behind this other fella and I couldn't have been any closer behind him, then we realised there was a crash, but lifted off and braked, went sideways through the middle of the accident, proper Hollywood shit
I'm exhausted, my muscles haven't taken a caining, I need to get fit
That's cool Mike

I did karting for a few months, the cost really is out of this world though. especialy to be competitive and lets face it, where is the fun at being at the back of the race ?
I say stick to hiring them out untill you know for sure it's somthing that will be worth the time and cost involved.

I didn't mean racing I just mean you can go to a circuit and pay £25 for the day, go out whenever you like etc, getting competitive would be too expensive and to be honest I don't think I'm quick enough
