Whats the best way to cross the channel... are prices much cheaper when booked in advance (compared to turning up on the day and booking)

When i booked to got to the Rugby world cup and booked about 3 days before i went it was about £120 of there abouts for one car.
I would have thought they would be much cheaper if you book in advance

i'd think that too, but dont have a definite date/time to go over.
P&O goes from about 40 to 100 when booking for the 21st compared to tomorrow

Where are you going from? Is it essential you go into France or are you headed further into Europe?
I only ask because I took the Zeebrugge-Hull ferry on the way back last time, cuts out a lot of UK driving and if you're in something thirsty you'll probably spend around the same in petrol as you would on the boat.
As for prices, it's always cheaper to book in advance.

If you want speed, and don't mind travelling to Dover then I cannot recommend the EuroTunnel enough. So so quick and you don't get see sick

Tunnel is much better and faster, Went over on the ferry last week and it was so rough. Just about everyone was throwing up. Tunnel is more expensive but from now on I'm going to pay the extra cost and take the tunnel.

Breakfasts on the boats suck!
But its nice to walk around, get some sea air. No doubt after the drive from ooop north u'd want to stretch you legs anyway.
Channel Tunnel is faster, but stuck in a dark tin can, the boats far more fun.

The Eurotunnel Shuttle isn't dark
And you can walk around on it.

So when you look out the window, you see the sea, cliffs, birds, the other massive ships in the channel? You can walk up and down a train. Least on teh boat you can go outside too.
If you hadn't noticed, its a tunnel, it goes underground. Its dark.
Obviously the inside of the carrage has lights or do you think im that stupid

Speedferries on the cat is quick and cheap, though you get taken to Bolougne-Sur-Mer which is about 45 mins further down the Autoroute than Calais...

When you going?
I'm driving down to Les Menuires in the French Alps on the 16th December; I'm sailing from Dover and tripping down; I'll probably drive to Dover the night of the 15th and then get the first ferry on the 16th before driving down
