do you have to reset your ecu if you replace the standard airbox with an induction kit or cone? as i have attached a K N 57i and i have read on this site that you should reset the ecu after engine mods is this right? is it easy?

yes you have to re set the ecu and the same when you change your air filter and spark plugs

Why? Explain how resetting the ECU after changing your spark plugs makes any difference?

in this guys defence my mates bmw needed the battery disconnected for 20 mins to reset the ecu when he took OFF his induction kit, it threw up an emission light otherwise.

yea but surely if you are just replacing an standard air filter for a standard air filter you have no need to reset the ecu.

20valver do you reccomend me re setting the ecu after i toped up my washer bottle?

no but 20valver said air filter, to me an air filter is a standard air filter not a performance one like pipercross bmc k&n

sorry to say but i been a mechanic for few years and never re set ecu with air filter mods spark plug mods. or oil changes. hate to say tis but do you know what youre talking about m8 and do you have knowledge of mechanical engineering for cars m8 learnt off everyone n nowone ever reset it. whilst in my apprenticeship me n my mentor did massive mods to his astra 02 turbo n neva reset it until we fitted vxr injectors turbo fmic hose kit and dump valve n we remapped it ourselves 260 bhp lol.

thats becuse they have 3 sensors buddy, BMW's have a very awkward inlet system! the corsa only has an air temp, unless its a C16xe

so when you put new spark plugs in you get more powerful spark and this would mean you need more fuel and when you put a K N 57i induction kit this would mean more air going into the engine,
so then you have to re set the ecu to compensate for this
