PERSONALLY, i'd stick with plumbing. All depends what YOU want to do with your life. I'd imagine journalism is a much harder game to crack a get nice money, where as plumbing you could be self-employed in no time and charging silly prices.

My little brother is currently studying journolism in Uni, he is in his second year and has really enjoyed it. He has done an "exclisive" article on me and my dramatic first month in uni If you are good at writing stories mate, you should really enjoy it

Yeah I think I would be good at it. Only issue I see is that I need to o a 2 year college course and i'm almost 19. So i'll be 24 before I even start earning, and that'll be a poor wage. 30's until I get something really worth while.
It's just I don't enjoy plumbing at all and it's depressing to think it's what i'll be doing in 10 years time.

I was looking at jobs earlier for it, £12,000 a year to start and " £80,000 and up once in bigger companies". Not many people get that 80 grand i'm guessing

Well, I passed plumbing at college so I have that to fall back on. My old man doesn't believe in me at all, it's all CAN'T CAN'T CAN'T. I told him what I want to do, he laughed. "You are a waste of space". A waste because i've finally decided that I want to do something that i'll enjoy, not something that'll make him happy.

TBH I didn't really think i'd enjoy it but it just seemed the smart choice because it's a trade.."Always" work in trades and so on.
He changes careers too, took up plumbing the same time as me, just I did it full time and have passed and he's on the night course so has another year.
Never really looked into open university, might take a look.

Maybe he was hoping you two would run a family plumbing business in the future, then it will be something for him to pass down to you so it will all be yours when he retires etc.
Maybe that is why hes a little peeved/disappointed

I can see where he is coming from but to go so OTT because I want to do something I know i'd enjoy is a bit bad. I'm not prepared to live his life.

That happened to my best mate with his uncle. He is very well established in the building trade (redrow homes) and expected all the grandkids to follow in step. My best mate however didnt want to, so recieved no funding from his uncle, while his brothers and sister have had loads...he stuck to his guns though and now has a sucessfull business of his own building websites.

Look at it this way, you are slightly older, so your more mature/slightly wiser. If I came at the age of 18/19 I know for a fact I would have just done no work and lots of partying. Now im a maturer person, I am able to disipline myself better to work before the partying

Dont 100% have to go to uni. my mate did law etc at uni but now really fancies journalism.
He has started off my getting some work experiance at the independant. Might only be in the office answering phones 90% of the time on the news desk. But he has interveiwed jack osborne and zoe ball whilst he has been there and had a colum printed that he wrote so he has a foot in the door
He is now doing to do a short intensive course in london that covers basic skills and short hand etc.
So it seems to be not what you know but who you know alot of the time.

Well uni is just something I would like to experience. Get away from here and see other places/new faces.
Yeah I have read up quite a bit on it and it always seems it's who you know.
