Abit of advise really.
Only need apply if you can help me and around 7 other people with the same job.
I started my current posistion in Sept 2006 > To date.

First of all i'm annoyed.
Im on a set annual pay at work / I work for the Business Collections Dept for Virgin Media/ Ntl: Telewest
I was employed for for round about £14,500.
But now the agency in question for V.M (Who they get Temps+ Perm staff from) are offering the same job as myself for £2500 more anually.
As you would be, Im slightly pissed off.
Is this fare? (I would say not)
Can a letter be drafted up to the company complaining + wanting the same pay as the newer people being employed now?
I'm just asking some advice in what to included in the letter and/ or some examples of the words I will want to use to sound professional / within the boundarys to be making such an official "stand" about unfair pay.

Thanks all for your time.
Regards,
Joe

P.S Any other info you may need on this- Let me know

No, they can decide to pay new staff whatever they want. You could all try complaining together but if it was me emplying you I'd tell you to GTF.

Agency pay more because its not gaurenteed contract work, one day they may be rang up and told not needed today, I was working for DHL through an agency and no one would speak to me and I couldnt work out why, was speaking to my brother and he said he always used to get that, its cause I was on about £1.50 more an hour than them and they didn't like the fact, not that it was my fault or anything
I was only there 2 months before I wasnt needed when it went quiet again...

Are you sure the responsibilities are the same?
It's a bit unfair but at the end of the day they aren't really in the wrong.

If it was me I'd be pissed - but not really much you could do about it.
If you're part of a union then have a chat with the representative and see what they say,

Life's not fair, but as Cosmo has stated they can pay anyone whatever they want.
Are the new staff contracts exactly the same as yours (excluding pay)?

He said the the agency brings in temps and perm employees. Getting a perm job through an agency is just the same as getting a perm job direct through the company.

Not always. Sometimes you can still get paid through the agency even though you're in a perm job, other times you can just become a normal emaployee of the company.

You havent got a leg to stand on.
If the business wants to pay someone more than you then that is their decision.
Bit unfair but so are alot of things

its not unfair.
Its contract work, and therefore has more risk. In my job I can be paid twice as much for contract work as I do in a 9-5, simply because its contract.

from reading his post I'm not sure he is saying it's contract work....he just says that the job advertised is thru the same agency as they get all there temps and perms from.
What I get from his post is the agency is offering a perm job at £17k (i.e. £2.5k more than him).
If this is the case this will ALWAYS happen wherever you work. I see it all the time, new people coming in my work doing similar job and starting on like £28k. Thing is when you have been somewhere a while you only tend to get the standard percentage cost of living increase every year.
From my experience new starters always seem to get more than existing staff

Sorry to confuse.
Im under contract (Now not Temp anymore) But the new people coming through doing -exactly- the same job are on more money.
There are people who started on more money ie: £16k but "Us" that have been here some 2 +1/2 years are still on far less annual pay.
I find it annoying how they can do it + not atleast match our current pay to the newly advertised pay from the agency or give us all back-dated pay to when we were first employed.

Any suggestions in writing to them?
Thanks,
Joe

Perhaps there asking more from the new starters, better qualifications etc, which gives them more money in the end.

But i know for a fact they dont.
Surely if it takes you 3 months to learn the things we use on a daily basis the extra money isnt really worth it+ they should keep current employee's happy instead of shafting them.

Scratch that, can see in the first post.
I am emailing them now to inform them that you dont deserve any increase in pay, actually you dont deserve a job, as you're on here all day.
