Looks rough. What proof is there that it's a 2.1?
And
"The car is still logged as a 1.6gsi 16v so means cheap tax and insurance."

If its a 1.6 on the logbook, then the tax is exactly the same price

A 0.5mm increase is only 24cc more, 2022cc
88mm isnt even 2100cc, but close as.
I wouldnt recommend 88mm bores though... no scope for future repairs/work on the block I had to scrap two
87mm pistons with give you just short of 2050cc, assuming std 86mm stroke

That would be possible if cavvy gsi's came on an M plate.
Edit, unless it was late-registered,but the chances of that are very slim.

i was under the impression, like alot of others i know that 86mm beeing the standard, and beeing told 87mm was as close as possible to 2.1 with off the shelf pistons, that 86.5 would be around 2050cc

I've seen that in Aberdeen a few times, seemed pretty solid - well didn't throw a cloud of smoke out the back when he floored it...

JR - SBD do or did 88mm pistons.... I had them in two of the white corsa's engines.... the 2.1's
The last build (that dropped a valve guide) was a 87mm IIRC
so... really, you either need 88's or diff crank with longer stroke to get a true 2100+cc
