Got mine from the nicest old lady sitting in a cold ASDA on Tuesday night. Loads of scum bags were walking passed without even acknowledging her - I walked in the opposite direction I need to to donate.

I put £25 in the box last year...to make up for the years for which i haven't given anything.

I had a new found respect for the veterans of past (and current for that matter) conflicts and felt obligated to do this.

I have had a bad attitude in the passed, saying soldiers sign up to the Army knowing the full blown consequences etc - like signing up to be a door man for a night club, and thinking you won't get trouble.

But since seeing Help for Heroes marketing, especially on the X Factor last Saturday, I've a new found respect for everything they do.

I know - but The Poppy Appeal and especially Help for Heroes isn't just about WWI and WWII.

The issue of ill-equipped forces in this day and age, fighting a 'war' they are fighting is disgraceful tbh. Plus suffering families at home.

When i signed up i was neither aware or made aware that basic body armour would be issued to only 8 out of 10 men in my company...

Yeh it was the A2 fortunatly. I had to use the A1 in basic training, some piece of kit that was

But i was a part of SF platoon which meant i got to play with the big boy GPMG and 50 cals

God knows mate, im not in the army anymore. Got a medical discharge and horsed out on my arse

My guess is the .50 are part of SF group, which will usually be sat at the back of a battlegroup giving support to the sections that are attacking. So there always more or less out of danger. So probably safest place for reporters to sit while still in the action. So probably why you see them beside them all the time.

I do my bit at the Rememberance service every year by playing the last post/ravellie (sp)

Usually get a poppy every year because of this

I quite agree, its a very worthy cause.

But the trouble is, where do you draw the line?
You could argue that there are homeless children living on the street, or children being abused and sold for sex slavery etc ( Red Light Children).

The trouble with the majority of the charities are the people at the top taking 'administration charges'.

The poppy appeal made almost £30m last year, and 3% of that was taken for admin, thats a staggering amount. You'll find most of the people high up in the charity are easily on 50k .

That being said, I will be donating
