Coming up for my 21st birthday soon and have been wanting to do it for years, How did you go about it? How much did it set you back?

Need to do something to get out of my current job, All i can see is class 2 driving jobs at the moment.

You need to apply for provisional entitlement first.

Do you have C1 already?

Brothers been driving Class 1 since he was 18 in the Army, found it hard to get work when he left the army at 21 and had to do Agency. I got quoted roughly £1200 all in depending on how well you pick it up thats for Class 2 (rigid) at 21 your going to struggle to get work on Artics so do a bit of rigid work with class 2 licence through an Agency then go onto artics. I've recently got 3 points which will make it very hard for me to get a driving job at 22 so im not going to bother gettin my licence now , I already drive a van at the moment. Anyone giving you a driving job will want SOME experience of you doing Multidrop so try and get a job for DHL etc on the vans and get some Exp. under your belt.

Edit: Above is asuming you want to go onto crive Class 1, which are a lot better money, and better work.

my brothers 21 and hes just started his hgv licence, his course is £3500 all inclusive, thats teaching and the theory and practical tests for classes C+E. He just rang up a few places before he started the course to make sure they would take a 21year old on and most companys would.

I don't think it'd be the best time to get into it as alot of haulage firms are making alot of drivers redundant. Think Eddie/Stuart Stobart made reduntant 200 drivers a few weeks ago.

Other than that though i know a company called dragon drivers that are based in the london area that maybe of some help for you

Or you can apply with courior companys eg Fedex, city-link and so on, they normally train you to do it and then you work it of over X amount of time etc.

Cheers, i think ill give them a ring in the next few weeks.

Are there any good books apart from the highway code i could get hold of, or any cd-roms or websites for information and the theory side of it. Think it would be a good idea just to start swatting up on it.

I just passed my Class 2 last thursday with Jim Shanks HGV training in Galasheils/Berwick, The price it cost my work was £700 but the Medical and theory was seperate.

I paid £30 formy medical and £50 (I think) for the theory
