I got back in July after a 5 month trip over there and the best thing I took with me was a 4 way UK plug socket extension lead, alongside my travel adapter. Perfect when your in hostels and it's usually 1 plug socket per bed. You can put all your stuff on charge at the same time too, phone, ipod, razor etc etc.
Take a decent padlock as well, most hostels will have cupboards beneath or at the side of your bed where you can put your valuables in, then you can just use your own padlock.
You can get bed bug sheets from CCC and places like that, saw some horrific cases of bed bugs, people waking up covered head to toe in bites, not pretty.
If I think of anything else, Ill let you know! If you want to ask any questions u2u me. I know Tigers got a good knowledge of travelling over that way, so he's a good source of info too!
