Here lies the problem....

I sold my car with my number plate on, with intentions of getting a company car. Credit crunch changed all that....

My GF and I share her car now and works out well, I am the nominee on the number plate (V778 Form), I dont want to buy another car JUST so I can be the "owner" of the plate on the paperwork but cant see another way?!

GF has a new car, if I change her car into my name and back her new car will go from 1 owner to 3 owners.... Looks bad when we come to resell.

What I want to do, buy an old car IF I have to, newer then P 1996, put my plate on it and then sell it right back on after I get all the paperwork. The car has to be under my name for this to work.

Does that make sense?

Lesson learnt, wont sell with plate on again !!!! Too much hassell

Doesn't make any sense at all, why do you need to put it on a car?

Tell me about it.

DVLA have said they will NOT change it under my name without it going onto a car.

I can not put it on to any other car that isn't under my name.

So Im stuck ?!

im sure it doesn't matter who's name the plates in, you should be able to put it on her car, without changing owners

Why can you not just retain it?

It last 12 months, but its not under my name. If I dont buy a car within 12months it belongs to the guy that bought my old car. I doubt I will have his number in 12 months or still be in contact... if you see the problem.

You just pay 25 quid after 12 months to continue it, you can do it for as long as you want.

I dont get that at all, I thought if he owned the car he could remove the plate & do as he likes with it, includig sell/gift it to you, with it still being on retention!

Is the plate really worth saving?
