I always used to use 10w40 semi-synthetic.

Just had interim oil change done and had 5w30 fully synthetic in - apparently it's a better oil. Still runs ok

Thats as it was a typing error. Care to explain why you need fully synthetic 'racing' oil in a 1.0 Corsa?

more mpg and or more bhp done back to back road tests on engine oil

[Edited on 28-10-2008 by 20valver]
would not 15w 40 be to thick for the 1.0 12v not un less the engine has over 100,000 miles

[Edited on 28-10-2008 by 20valver]

if the engine oil is to thick then the engine will use more fuel to do the same job
the w rating means cold cranking which is measured in centistokes
if you have a oil rated at
5w 40/10w 40/15w 40/ 20w 40 these are the same viscosity the only part that is different is the cold cranking which is the w, the 40 means oil temperature so in the uk you could run a 10w 40 but in America you would need a oil that is 10w 60

in my astra i had to mix 2 oils of the same brand together silkolene pro s 10w 50 and pro r 15w 50 and this give more bhp and more mpg where as using just one oil type the engine was slower and used more fuel also fully synthetic oil has longer drain intervals
also if you do lots of short running trips the engine oil needs changing more this is because it is classed as extreme operating conditions,
when is the time to change your engine oil it is when the oil goes dark brown in colour because after dark brown in colour is black in colour

description of oil weight is the basics that ever one should know, a fully synthetic oil has esters and ethers that a adhere to the moving parts the more they get squeezed and loaded up ie tuning
