Engine was getting too hot when on the motorway and being driven hard.

http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/engines-transmission/371953-so-you-think-you-know-everything-about-xe-solve.html

Replaced a shitload of stuff for the engine trying to find the fault originally, finally changed the waterpump this weekend:

Plastic impellors are bad guys!!!

Without sounding like a prick, I find it very strange that you had the head off and replaced so much but left an old pump while doing that..

Maybe missing something, like pump was new etc but if it was me I would have had that changed while I did the head..

Yeh I didn't have it inspected.

The pump is only 15k/18 months old. So was my own fault really - I'm just glad it is finally fixed. Today I managed to fix my HID's and reinstall them, Then screwed a load of random stuff on the dash that I never refitted properly

Have you changed the cambelt in the time that pump has been on the car?

The plastic ones on the VAG 1.8t's are common to breaking causing the cambelt to go tits up.

Glad you've sorted it finally
