I got my car back from my local garage today after another head gasket failer, and I know why it failed, thermostat was dodgy from when I did it. My boot seal had gone to, and I was getting some nice condensation in my boot, so I brought the new headgasket and cylinder head bolts, only £48 pounds, happy days, but my garage had to order a new boot seal and it cost £72, HOW? Everyone I knew at college even my tutor who used to work at Vauxhall said it would cost around £15-20. So why does a piece of rubber cost that much????

I've already paid for the bloody thing. Would of only been £352 for the head gasket change if it weren't for the boot seal.

You paid £352 to change the HG on a 1.2 8v

Would of been cheaper changing the engine

Well last time I did it at college and it cost me £100 in parts, but this time college wouldn't let me and I didn't have the tools to do it, so garage was easy option. Also i'm waiting on a mate to put the XE in his Corsa so I can get his X16XE and put it in mine.

Well when I talked to loads of people they said £15-20 if you didn't read it properly, so I asked the manager of my local garage(not a Vauxhall dealership) to order it and fit, so I wasn't expecting that. It's like they charge £40 just for rear mudflaps, rip off central or what ( I haven't brought rear mudflaps, I asked how much they were).

I couldn't be arsed as it still would of cost me £72 for the seal, as he didn't charge me for it to be fitted, and yes I know I should of gone to a scrappy, but who knows how long a second hand one would last.

If you can afford to just say 'fuck it' to £72 I don't really see why you're complaining.

Priciple, yes. But if you didn't want to pay that you... shouldn't have paid that.

EDIT: get them to rip it off and refund you
