Well, got the old 16"s off with mismatched tyres on them, new 17" alloys with brand new uniroyal rainsports on.

They look fantastic, really please, but fucked off with how they drive:

Lost MPG's? Like 2-3 more than I should get, maximum of 53 when I was getting 56-7 on a run, even had it down to 29.7 round town today - is this normal on new tyres? should it get better say 1k down the line? I had 205/45/r16 on there before, gone to 205/40/r17, so surely shouldnt loose 3 mpg becuase of that?

Also, after aving the tracking done 3 times now, It is still pulling to the left - like having to hold the wheel 10 degrees to the right to hold the car straight - do I have to live with this? The toe (I think that is right) is "out" to me as well, the front wheels point / \ - one more than the other as well/

Once again, if you are just gunna come in here and bang on about how MPG is uncool, don't bother.

Any ideas please

Wheels will be heavier and the rolling radius slightly bigger.. that will be where the few mpg are going..

As for the pulling to the left, have you had just tracking done or a full 4 wheel alignment?

mpg is uncool...hmm new tyres shouldnt reduce mpg that much tbh

id say itsthe new radius of the wheels meaning u need that littke bit more th get it moving. long run it should be ok, if not better.

Weird its pulling to the left tbh. probably as the car now has a wider track it falls to the camber of the road easier? they wheels/tyres get balanced properly?

Not really in the weight, theres "less of" the Leon alloys, they are only an inch bigger as well, If'd i'd gone from 14"s to 17"s fair play, but i've gained half an inch if that in rolling radius?!?

most I ever aim for is 50mpg in mine I have to use my right foot though so its hard to maintain a constant speed, I wonder is it the mirical shell v-power diesel giving you the edge

shit this is turning into another MPG thread

I've had 62 on a run, set on 70 before, on the 16s.

The golf is heavyer, and your rolling on 18's arent you?

Pics of wheels on the car ffs

Couldn't imagine new tyres being the cause tbh. Alsi take into consideration different weather Rolling radius may not be much different but it may effect it as might the weight.

This is true, still seems like LOTS more, I generally get 48mpg-ish driving mostly motorways 70 & above not really caring about mpg.

Just worked it out, I've gain 5mm in the overall size of wheels/tyres, but then I have another 8mm of tread on top of that...

Thats .2 of an inch i've gained. Might have a look at the weight...

are you really that worried by 2-3 mpg? 10-12 i'd understand you asking questions but thats just petty IMO

Enjoy your car, its nice so dont worry about the loss its minimal.

they toe in as standard anyway iirc around 0.05 degrees +/- 0.05..

was it just tracking or a full alignment? there are other factors that can cause pulling

I don't know, there was a machine on each wheel, then alot of messing around with a bolt just behind each of the front arches.

if your tracking is out you will lose mpg through that due to increased resistance with one wheel trying to go a different direction to which you are travelling.
