Right bit of a bad time for me to buy a new car as I'm pretty skint and doing the house up. However these 2 gems have come up for sale locally private.

Are they bargains and maybe worth buying one of them? The clio seems particularly cheap.

Cli0 172 Sport, 2002, Silver, 58k, Half leather etc, FSH, Just had MOT, LAdy owner £2999

Golf GTI 1.8 T, 150bhp model, T reg, FSH, 58k, Grey, just had service, £2800

The woman selling the clio wants a quick sale hence price, but wondering if its worth pushing further. Had a quick read up and the cambelt seems to be due on a 172 at 6 years old or 60k, which ever comes first.

Watch for the tax and the cambelt on the 172, but very good price for the 172.

Golf seems about right, T reg remember thats nearly 10 years old not.

Clio is very very cheap.

Cambelt will cost you at least 500 but there's a lot of scaremongering with that on cliosport, people getting them changed at 20k just to be safe etc.

Even for a quick sale it's still a bit cheap though so i'd have a good look over it.

Looks like trade in price to me, cars aint selling & some folk might grudge giving them to a stealership for buttons & would prefer to sell private at that price for a quick sale

The clio is priced at less than what a trader would probably give for a 'below average' condition...this value probably wouldnt take account for if it did or didnt have the cambelt changed recently.

Value of the Golf is about right imo.

I got offered 3k for my 2002 golf GT tdi last week for a trade in, its surprising how little there is trade for a 6yr old car just now!!

How much was a 172 new, 14k or something................3000 is about all you'd get imo.

can be done at rentech for about £350, the service interval is 72k or 5 years which ever comes first.

I used Rentech for my 36k service and it came in at £200 cheaper than the dealers.

As mentioned cambelt is at 72k or 5 years ad at worst case will cost you £350 which is great value if you consider the amount of time involved in the job.

Unfortunately I do a lot of miles for my job and now its just hurting me each time I get to the pumps. Plus the millage is creeping up now....just racked up 25k since November 28th last year

Best car i've owned by far and I still smile from ear to ear every time I drive it! Just thinking the quicker I get a derv te quicker I can get an M3
