Got a 1.6 Corsa at the mo, really don't wanna spend another penny on it lol. Been a great car but I am always umm'ing and arr'ing with wether to get rid or not.

Wouldn't mind something quick though, along the lines of a 172, Ibiza Cupra with a remap etc... only problem being I'm lacking in pennies! I'm after an allrounder, not a big car, something economical on the pocket but with some go.

Can owt be got for 3k which is decent performance, handling, reliability, cheap to run and isn't a Corsa? I need something with a better stigma, being 27 now..

You guys love these threads so, go go go!

You'll get an old shape 172 for 3k, maybe even a new one if you look hard enough.

My 52 plate 172 in near mint condition only went for 3800.

Why do people pay so much for 106gti's?

As much as I hate the clio it's a newer, better specced, faster car for the same money?

Cheers for the replies peeps.

Jenko, I have had an incling that I fancy a 106 GTI, rapid lil tinbox has gotta be fun but worried about crashing and burning now I'm old and they are weak haha.

Clio 172 I've looked at, can get the old shape as little as 2k, 3k is top end for decent phase 1's now. Some phase 2's around 3k (just over) which don't look too shabby.

I don't wanna buy a shitter thats all. All the cars mentioned (bar the 406 lol) are the kinda things I've been looking at, just making sure I'm along the right lines

The Astra 2.2 is a funny one, I do like them... figures don't suggest they're up to much but looking at this vid, once above 60 it don't half motor for a heavyish car:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xTfTCjaXWV4

I'm only arsed about 0-100, anything which can do it under 20 secs is gonna be a big difference from my Corsa

EDIT: I like the Fiesta Zetec S but not gonna be any quicker is it, and rust puts me off.

ST170 I also like, but you need above 3k for a decent one really Prob do for all cars mentioned but I see Ibizas are dropping in price now, with some haggling could maybe walk away with an ok one for 3k without anything up with it majorly bar a good clean up lol

Aye I'm thinking that myself. Got some toys too, but still a little motor, bit boyo really and a bit cheap with the finish inside But I dunno wether to have a cast off in performance for quality, or vice versa. Being old I should go for quality but I was late getting my licence and you only live once (even though I'm living on a big budget here lol) so who knows

i'm a bit biased on the mk4 astra to be honest as i've got the 1.8 sxi version myself! its the slighly older 115bhp version on a x plate (year 2000), the ones from 2001 onwards are 125bhp, the way to tell the difference is the cat is on the manifold on the 125bhp version. i didnt want this as from experience i know the cats on them cost more to replace. i was looking at selling it but i just cant seem to let go, it does everything i ask and more. i'd love a drive of the 2.2 though, bet its quite torquey.

I like post 2003 Corsa C's but nah think I've done my Corsa phase now, had 2 b's and thats enough. Current one has been mint and I do trust Vauxhalls but wouldn't mind something with a much, much better chassis lol
