if you face the rear of the seats, how much of a gap should you leave between the sub and the seats?

Ported subs generally require more power, but have a broad bass range. Mine is facing towards the boot, but I drive an Audi A4, and there's a inch thick steelplate behind the back seats... I can still hear the bass, but once I open the boot and hear how loud it actually is... makes me think I should get a better amp to get that sort of sound in the cabin

Face towards the boot, if you block it by facing the seats your messing up how it bounces.

That's a really shit explanation but it's just what I was told

In my old mk3 astra the bass sounded muffled if I faced the sub against the back seats, but fine when turned around.

I'd say it matters a lot.

this thread is pointless imo because all subs are different in the respect that some are front firing and some are rear firing so without knowing what sub it is then no one can comment honestly, and bass is directional to a certain degree
pick your sub then ask, or if you allready have one then let me know the model and spec and i will advise from there or other users will

I had them facing the boot in a twin ported box. Could flip a pound coin on the roof with itlike that. Also the box was that big i couldn't have them any other way

After reading this thread, I switched my sub to face my rear seats and the sound difference was instantly noticable. While it did bang a little more (vibration wise) the sound was completely off... Like hitting a drum full of sawdust. Ported boxes need the airflow, I wouldn't know about sealed.
