Van driver Nigel Weaver from Berkshire has just clocked up half-a-million miles in his Combo van. He covers a massive average of 75,000 miles each year making trips between England and Europe, that’s in the region of 1442 miles each week!

The Combo still has its original engine and is still totally reliable, needing only a new gearbox and steering column after the 400,000-mile mark. Pretty impressive, and testament to the quality of the vehicle. Bet the seat has an arse crack indent you could lose a small animal in though.

51-plate too, so no doubt it's the 1.7Di engine

Snap.

I can't help but think that every creak, groan and thud in that Combo, you'd think "This is it, this is the end"

Having only had a new gearbox and steering column, what about the Turbo? Or was there an engine fitted to the vans that didnt have a turbo? I know the difference in the 2.0's Di/DTi is that the DTi has an intercooler and the Di doesnt, but they both have turbos still

Yeah, the 1.7Di has a turbo, but no intercooler.

By the way, I think that is a 51 plate and can only presume it's to cover that sort of mileage. It may well be a DTi or even CDTi looking closely at the picture, it might not be a 51 in the number plate

Surely depends how it is driven. If it allowed to warm up and isn't redlined everywhere, I would imagine it's ok. Plus doing all the long journeys he does do the turbo isn't under massive load

Never one to get hung up on fuel consumption and cost I worked it out as.

505,300 miles / 60 (mpg) = 8421.67 gallons

8421.67 gallons = 38,318.58 litres

38,318.58 litres x £1.25 = £47,898.23

Its over 6 years or something though so youd have to work out the average price of diesel over that period.

I should still imagine it would be £40k + which is just

Tutut deano should do things properly

But seriously thats a lot of miles!

Would be interesting to see the end like when a vehicle gets to 999999 it would then roll over to 000001

Thats even if there is something that would manage that many miles
