Seriously tempted by an Audi S3, ive pondered on what to get for a while now and just really cant decide, the only problem is I begrudge paying the £100 a month insurance as im used to paying under £50... anyone with one convince me that its worth the extra wad, if not its probably going to be a 182, but I'm thinking il be driving along and see an S3 and think I should of got one of them
What would you do??
P.s.

Tbh, although they are hatchbacks, they are completely different cars! The S3 will be quick, but comfortable. The 182 will be less comfortable on the long miles, but much more chuckable! I'd take the Clio myself, but I like fun more than comfort

And servicing is expensive

You could be talking about either the clio or the S3 with that.

Surely the servicing is only expensive if you go stealers? Go to any other garage and it will be the same as any other car?
Im more of a fast and comfortable type of person (James May esque) so I would prefer the Audi. I know what you mean about the insurance though, Im only paying £25 a month atm but will at least double come March

Servicing, runnings costs etc dont bother me to be honest, just that the Audi is dearer to buy and insure than the Clio, but they are in a different league imo.

Servicing costs on the clio are stupid, it's a clio at the end of the day.
500 quid for a cambelt from an independant isn't cheap.

S3
Drive them both you will soon decide!
I was wanting Mini Cooper S or TT after driving both, playing with both was not a hard choice to make!

Currently paying a month for insurance,
£54 - Mondeo TDCi
S3 would be £97
Clio would be £92
Looks like theres not much in it between the two.
Edit: Just got these quotes on the phone off my insurer, properly tempted

Cooper S was also an option but im not too keen on the interior on them, S3 is definatly on top at the moment.

s3 you can chuck all over the place and very rarely will you lose it. 4 wheel drive comes in to play when it starts to step out, and you can get them chipped to bring them up to 265bhp which is nice. but beaware of petrol, cause they drink it like its water!

This is/was mine. Its sold today.

Had nothing but trouble with it. Turbo went at 70k, slip diff soon followed. Resuting in VERY expensive parts.
The slip diff was a nightmare to find. They cost 2k new from Audi dealership so I had to try find a second hand one, in which they are no guarentees.
Lovely car, I have had lots of good times with it, but the repair costs are simply not worth it.
Maybe mine was just simply 'bad luck' as I had the car regular serviced and was generally very well looked after.
If you do go for one, hope you have better luck than i did

Cooper S over an S3 anyday of the week.
Mini will have stronger values in years to come and albeit a BMW wont cost as much to fix as an S3.
S3's are a bit woooly to drive IMO. They are also getting old and the market is flooded with them at pretty low prices which suggests they are getting hard to shify.

Agreed. In the pic of my S3, the mini cooper s in the background is shared between me and my sister (partly because the S3 was always breaking down). I would go for a Cooper-S anyday over the S3, but it depends what you want. Reliable, easy to drive little fun car = Mini. Faster older car = S3.
S3's are dropping in value like crazy at the minute, they will drop heavily in value once the new tax is introduced. Think it will be around £400 a year to tax.

Totally different cars! If you are looking at an S3 then I dont think a Clio 182 will float your boat.
