Drove the Corsa down a few B-roads the other night with my mate in a boggo Y reg Megane Coupé in front... my car aint mega stiff but it was still pretty skitish, couldn't handle the bumps that well when pushing on and my mate in Megane was like yeah was fine just driving normally lol...

Makes me think I'd like a slightly comfier car, doesn't really have to be quicker I suppose because I don't want pay loads out in fuel so if I was to sell mine I'd prob be able to spend up to 2k on a motor...

Quite like MK4 Astra's anyway as I feel a bit old for a Corsa B at 27 now... Focus's I like also... 3 door Zetec maybe, or Astra SXi 1.8 or so 3 door of course.

Was looking @ Golf GTi's (mk3), stuff that size anyway as they seem more composed, even 306 DTurbo's... but don't wanna risk selling a perfectly reliable car for something which will give me grief, even though I'm bored of the Corsa, feel too old, want something more refined

Chars peeps
Any opinions, ideas?

I do like Focus's... seem a nice comfy car to drive, but a little plasticy inside. MK4 Astra's seem better built but I've never driven one.

One day I'll have a fast mad car (I was a slow coach in getting my licence haha) so for the time being I need to grow up, sensible will have to do with the money I've got available

Are the 1.6 Focus's any good? I know they're supposedly very ecomonical but wondering if they're gonna be a bit too slow compared to a 1.8 (which apparently are pants on fuel in comparison).

I really do sound old haha

the cost of parts for an older 5 series is the same for parts for any other car really as long as you don't go to a dealer.

BMW's are nice for being lazy and fat in, swallowing motorway miles at an idle speed.

But he wants something that'll make him look 27 and fun in a twisties - Focus 2.0 Zetec fits the bill IMO.

Can't see the MPG beign much worse in the 1.6 than the 2.0

Why aren't you driving an old shitty beemer then?

I've been at uni for the last 3 years and just finished, if you look at my pistonheads link you will find it's not shit.

Yeah, I deleted that. Still don't think it's a good car to get on a low budget to start with.

I don't think the beemer is for me despite its strengths When I'm 37 maybe haha.

Something fun but composed in the twisties is fine. It's rare I go above 70 anyway as most of my driving is town stylee (hence don't wanna drop below 31/32mpg which is what I get from my 1.6 Corsa) but wanna be able go razzing down the odd bumpy B road and have fun without having sweaty palms and worrying about landing in a hedge to keep up with normal cars! lol. So something which soaks up the bumps but is still peppy and a bit of fun, reliable, cheap to run, quite economic etc

Focus has been a car I've liked for a while now, but noone wants to swap one for a Corsa
