Do you ever find you stuggle to switch off??
ive just been in the shower and ive stepped and i thought hang on, the entire time ive been ive been in there ive been thinking about van deliveries, account customers, orders, discount structures, stock levels, prices, etc
i think its mainly worrying about tomorrow, im covering again (seems to be only me that moves round doing everyone elses job)
Im currently on the front parts desk taking telephone orders for mailorder and local van jobs aswell as serving customers who come in.
Normally i just serve workshop technicians for prices and parts.

Never take work home unless their paying you for the pleasure.
Ok im doing vast amounts of training just now, which involves some study/completing coursework in evenings, once im working however I try to just forget about everything, nothings THAT important really is it!! Its only work

Nah, I know what you mean, I run a business with the 3 people that I live with (parents and brother) so, even when we 'clock off' and come home, we're still talking, planning what needs to be done tomorrow, buying and selling on ebay, researching new things, ordering parts, adjusting our website. End of the day tho, needs must, we've gotta do all this to progress. Atm, we've no computer at the unit so anything involving computers has to be done at home once we're finished up at the unit so I generally do about 8 or 9 hours at the unit then come home and start sorting out other bits that need doing. Once we've grown a bit more we'll all be able to give it our full attention but for now it's not practical so we all have to work 24/7
Be worth it in the end tho
I'm quite laid back to so I can forget stuff easily enough when I get chance to switch off. I sometimes forget stuff a bit too easily tho Usually important stuff

Lately i have found it hard switching off. Been working 7am till 8pm just to get work done and sorted out in time, and then working on it at home. However i can get paid overtime, and at over 30 quid an hour im not really that adverse to working late.
I understand Mikes situation of not switching off...however thats part of runing your own business i guess.

I go to work, do the job required of me, I go home. I rarely socialise with anybody from work (Quite a large place). I leave any work issues I have in my locker when I leave

Im constantly working, but saying that Im working for myself. If I was going out and doing a standard 9-5 then you can be fucked to think I'd give anything a second thought after 5pm!

I've had 3 jobs working for other people, 2 as an apprentice mechanic and in both I got shit on. My wages was stupid, the effort I was expected to put in a joke considering they barely paid me.
Then I went working for my dad, same wage as the second job but instead of 42 hours a week I was probably doing 18-20 hours a week. There was much less expected of me, I was usually finished by 1 o'clock, had a few other perks too then as my dad's business has grew smaller we've started the other business between us all where we're all equal partners, and no-one shits on no-one

i step out of work and have forgotten about it, im able to do that in my job which is nice, when i was a team leader i use to always take work home, be thinking about it and becasue my team work shifts id get calls about work (even though they wernt meant to call me) best one was one of my staff had a personal issue and called me about that :@

I constantly think about it. It's worse when I'm on courses as it kinda becomes your life for the weeks you are on it. Go to work and learn new stuff, go home and revise it, get in early the next day to remind yourself of it again, then start a new day of learning. But it's all worth it as it's progression.
Even when I finish that, I start revising for the next course I can go on, but meh, I enjoy my job enough not to care. It doesn't affect me, as if my mates said lets go out, I wouldn't turn them down because I wanted to revise.

The only time I ever think of work outside of work is when Ive left and I know I have not done something or done something I shouldnt have done Saying that only work for Tesco so its hardly a life threatening position

Constantly thinking about it, with being the longest tech here I'm all knowing and have to be all seeing.
When I'm not in the office I constantly get emails on my blackberry which I'm worried arent getting replied to quick enough and so forth. gayyy

I switch off when I get home unless theres a disaster to avert; but normally wake up at 2-3am and cant get back to sleep because of something stupid at work. I've got a pad and pen by my bed now and if I wake up worrying about owrk, I write it down - I seem to stay awake because I'm worrying about forgetting about whats worrying me; If I write it down, I fall back to sleep straight away

When i leave at 5pm (and i leave on the dot no later) i forget everything about work, i usually forget during the day as i don't like working here anymore
Thing is by the time i get home i then start thinking about my freelance work, so even though its not the same work its still work

As soon as i get home, have a shower get changed, then open the wine/beer which ever i have in, then chill out for the rest of the evening then it all kicks off again the next day.
