Got my girlfriend a nice one a couple of weeks ago.

There not very fast off the lights but there ok once going. There pritty decnet on fuel, get over 40 mpg easy

The abs lights are always on on them, usually a sensor, also the boots rust through behind the number plate.

They feel pritty solid on the road.

i got a unmodified black 1997 one, two owners, full service history and only 90k for £1300 which i thought was a decent price after looking looking at some dogs

Ive got a mk3 tdi. Never heard of the boots rusting before, arches are the first thing to go, if its got a sunroof you may get a patch of rust forming at the top of the windscreen to like me!

Ive been told that the 8v's are poo, 16v is a much better engine

The colour concepts have fancy paint (apart from the yellow thats gash imo) and colour coded interior's. They have a few other bits but im not to clued up on them to be honest.

If your after a special edition go for the annaversery anlthough these fetch a premium.

depends what you class as poo, my mates 8v had 15 owners, 174k on the clock, was thrashed every day and never serviced and ran fine

The 16v are abit quicker though, also theres not alot in it in the insursance between the two

I bought a P reg 8v gti with 114500 on the clock and full service history. Brilliant on motorways and pulling away because all the power is low down the rev range. I'd recommend one. I looked at a colour concept but the leather int. looked abit shabby as it had done 109k

I heard the 16V has to be worked hard to get power out of it and the 8v has more torque lower down.

Just remembered if you do get an 8v keep a spare coil pack or two in the boot as they are a common fault, not expensive by any means, can just be a pain if it fails.

I'm sure colour concepts only came in 8v form? Might be wrong.

I'd just got for a tidy GTI. IF you want a special edition go for a anniversary (these came in 8v and 16v form.

N.B. The same engines went into the Mk2 Seat Cupra GTIs

Meant to be pretty thirsty afaik, but people say the noise is immense, you can get those with comfy leathers if you get a vr6 highline.

Why not get the GTI and then buy a leather interior separate second hand?

Oh and get some Audi TT Comps for it (5 spoke polished) as they're sex wee!

Seats are the same apart from colour i think mate, i know the leather in the colour con is very comfy but i've not been in a vr6 with leather to compare.
