Whos done it themselves?
Pics of results would be good.

basically the mrs' corsa sport is looking a bit tired, the rusty boot and bonnet is getting bad and the arches are starting to go aswel so was thinking of stripping it down and tidying it up myself. Its flame red so id imagine it wouldn't be the most difficult colour to respray??

Ive got a compressor and plenty of space, just no garage. Im thinking a sealed up large gazebo type thing.. am i totally mad or can this be done!!

Cheers

i have a done a few diy re sprays ...........lol

i have no training wot so ever,

if u got space and equipment then go for its, otherwise if u gotta get equimpent and get good stuff then prob work out cheaper to get it done prefessionally!

compressor = 200+
goos spray gun = 250
air lines + filter = 50
da + pads = 50
other wet and day = 20
primer = 50
colour = 200
laquer = 80ish
thinners = 20
other bits prob add 50

so looking at 800-900

just finished painting mine and my mates. first time we have done any kind of bodywork. dont think it turned out too bad. not really too arsed what it turns out like as i like to learn stuff. couple of £100 quids not the end world for some more paint.

go for it the worst you can do is have to do it again. we sprayed my mates the blue one 3 times before we were happy with it. main thing is prep work and having a clean area to spray. we found he compressor kicked up loads of shit as it was only a small one so we stuck it outside

thats the only thing, you need a nice big clean space to be able to get i right, a small single garage just isnt big enough as you cant spray far enough away from the car and you cant walk all the way around the car without moving it, so you end up with it uneven

ours is big enough to comfortably fit 2 cars in and it was still hardwork finding space to put everything and still be able to get to it all

thats just the thing, you need the space and you need it to be sealed so no dust can blow on the car

If your not too sure about actually painting the car you can do all the prep yourself including masking up and just get a bodyshop to paint it, some places will even rent out the spraybooth for you to paint in yourself.

thanks people!

j10E W - the reason im not saving up £1000 to have it done properly is because the car is only worth £1200 ish so spending that kind of money would be stupid.

im one of those people that thinks "that looks easy, i could do that"

Would it really cost £350 in paint??!!

and £250 on a spray gun??
ive got a sander and compressor and air lines.

i've sprayed a few cars and lots of parts, certainly doesnt cost me £350 in paint. and my gun cost something like £20. alot of it is down to prep prep and more prep. the applying of the paint as long as dust free and even is the easy part with practise, then the final finishing can make or break the job. its not the kinda thing you'll learn from a few posts on a forum, really need hands on experience.
