So all I need is a CBT and I don't need to display L plates?

no, you still have to display L plates with a CBT but you don't have to retake the test after 2 years if you already have a driving license

Certain age licenses don't require CBT either, but most members on here probably do.

I'd take the CBT regardless though!

CBT does expire regardless of licence entitlement after 2 years.

You DO have to retake the CBT after 2 years if you do not pass your motorcycle theory and practical test.

If you obtained your car licence before 1 February 2001 you do not need to complete a CBT to ride a moped

quote:
for moped entitlement only, if you pass your car driving test whilst your DL196 is still current or complete a CBT course and obtain a DL196 after passing your car test, the certificate is not subject to expiry, you will therefore need to keep your DL196 certificate safely. Please note that this applies to mopeds only, for riding motorcycles as a learner the DL196 remains valid for two years

quote:
A moped has a maximum design speed not exceeding 50 km/h (approx. 31 mph). It has an engine capacity no greater than 50 cc

So if you pass your CBT when you already ahve a car license, or pass your car license within 2 years then the CBT - DL196 certificate remains active for mopeds upto 50cc and limited to 50mph. I am sure that the you class scooters as mopeds but can't find any info.

However upto 125 and 14.6hp is different and as PaulW said you will need to retake after 2 years or take the full motorbike test
