I really fancy doing something else, dont get me wrong i arnt bad at my job but i dunno if i can be arsed staring at outlook and telnet windows for the rest of my life i want something a bit more then an 'anything will do office job'

anyone else think the same? id leave tomorrow if i didnt have my cars and bills to pay for..

Being clever isn't all it's cracked up to be.

If you're smart then you're much better off

I do thoroughly believe there's a big difference between being clever and what pieces of paper you have to say you are (i.e. NVQs, etc).

I never went to college or uni and was earning £30k+ at age 18. I call that clever.

Aye, for the last 8 years.

Still in IT

My advice, younger you are, easier to change, do it soon if your going to. I now cannot change career due to financial committments (i.e house)..

But my own business is still what i want to do, just dont know what doing.

PS, gets worse as you go on, only change is more skills, and more money.

But money doesn't always equal happyness. Sometimes you need a step backwards to go forwards.

Also, i've worked with some extremly intelligent people. More degree's and qualifications than i've had hot dinners...

But when it comes to life skills, well, i've got more commen sense on that bit of fluff on my bellend than half those people had put together.

Educated yes, common sense, no. But unfortunatly, common sense doesn't appear to be part of the english skillset these days.

Think it has to do with a lot of stuff - luck, work ethic, common sense, etc.

I've no real qualifications and in a pretty awful job. However, I'm happy and have ambitions with no real debts.

Lifes good, qualifications can fuck off. Girlfriend has silly amount of qualifications and her ways of thinking makes my blood boil.

I had a job interview the other day for £47k that I didn't even turn up to because the journey was shit. Fuck travelling an extra hour for a few more K, well not worth it. I currently travel 16miles to work, which pisses me off anyway. Then there's no parking here

I work in engineering btw.

I wouldn't class myself as being particualrly clever, very average C student at school but yet I have a degree and 2 professional accounting qualifications, its how you apply yourself really along with luck, hard work etc.

It depends how you define clever, my Dad for example left school at 15 as did his brother, they now own a very successful forestry, agriculture and construction business which employs over 40 people. Obviously they are very good at what they do therfore imo that makes them clever and business minded. I on the other hand did reasonably well at school went to uni and got a degree this is what people generally define as clever from my experience. But I would not for a second think that makes me cleverer than my old man. I also know many people who are in my line of work(quantity Surveyor) who left school asap and worked as they learned.

So imo, no you don't have to be defined as clever to go far in life. Confidence in your own ability and some grit and determination and you would be amazed at how far you could go

if you want to be rich you don't need to be academically clever, i know 3 millionaires that can't write, but when it comes to making money they know all the tricks

I probably am "clever" but i didnt enjoy the education system and decided after a'levels to get out the door.

I've just received a promotion at work, and some of the guys i'm working with earn up to 7500 a month and without offence to them they arent the brightest sparks in the world. Good at their job, because they have learnt it for 15 years.

i was always told i'd struggle after school as i'm not an academic. that kind of spurred me on to prove people wrong. i've got a pretty good job as an electrical engineer. i went to college for 7 years and got myself upto HND level. i'm not clever enough to do a degree but imo i don't need one. we've just installed a new production line that cost just less than $8M and myself and another engineer here were in charge of the installation. we have 5 lads working here that have degrees in engineering that could have run the job but they have no common sense at all. they are all shirt wearing "yes men".

I'd say you have to be clever yes, however 'clever' isn't as cut and dry as the conventional; he has a degree he must be clever.

You see i'd say Jade Goody, Katie Price and all those 'idiots' were extremely clever.

If you're smart enough to make money from being percieved as a trumpet then your doing well.

definitely agree on that one. we always get these university bofs in work trying to make things quicker to produce but they always end up fucking things up as they don't use common sense.

it's always better IMO if someone has worked there way up from the bottom of the ranks, so to say, as these are the people who have more common sense and are generally much smarter than the shirt wearing university idiots.

they are very clever, but not in the way that they went to university and got a Ba Hons in something or other.

they just have that money making talent.
