didnt quite realise whats involved as i have never been to a wedding before.. have been to loads of funerals
so she emailed me a list of things...
Leading up to the wedding day
If morning suits are not going to be worn choose an outfit which is smart and appropriate for the occasion, without upstaging the groom.
Follow the requests of the Best man
The Best man may ask you for help in arranging the stag night for the groom.
Attend a wedding dress rehearsal to finalise arrangements on the day (Not happening as far as I am aware but I will let you know for definite after checking with sir)
Day of the wedding
Arrive early, before the groom.
Find out where the toilets facilities are, in case guests ask (and the groom  .
Have the buttonholes ready to hand out at the entrance to the church or venue for each of the guests (no need as there will only be a select few with these and I shall give you the list)
Greet all guests as they arrive and direct family and friends of the groom to seats on the right hand side of the aisle and family and friends of the bride to seats on the left hand side.
Ensure all family members are seated close to the front.
Ensure the brides mother is escorted to her seat.
Seat any elderly guests and mothers with babies or very young children at the end of each aisle to allow easy access to the entrance.
Tell guests about any restrictions concerning photography and confetti.
Use your discretion when seating guests if there are large differences in numbers so that on both aisles there is a balance (my side is overloaded so good luck balancing this out)
Consider seating ladies with large hats at the back of the church or venue so they do not restrict other guests view during the ceremony (I am hoping nobody shows up in a hat).
Before the bride and her father arrive ushers should take their place at the back of the church or venue (once everyone is seated you sit with Katie wherever she may be, not at the back. The same will go for my brother, he will sit with his wife wherever she may be)
Direct any late guests to the nearest seat (if they know what is good for them they wont be late).
After the ceremony ensure all guests have left to go to the reception and have not forgotten any of their property, before leaving yourself.
THATS A LOT !!!!
anyone done this before ?
Im stressing already and its not for another 6 weeks yet

sounds like she's sticking too much to traditional guidelines. i was meant to be head usher for my mate last year and i agreed to do it as the responsibilities were as Craig says above. they split up in the end so didn't have to do it.

I've been.....
Groom, Best Man and read at the Church (not all at once!)
Just got to be an usher to complete the set.
Hopefully when one of my ushers gets his finger out I will be one!
Its the one i'm looking forward to most as you get to dress up, but have no pressure and not much responsibility at all!

Same, half of that is just common sense/bullshit anyway. Loads of bullet points on just sitting people down, its a piss easy job.

To narrow that down it's nitrally what Cosmo and C2RL R said, just handing out the buttons and seating people

You just stand at the door of the church and say "bride or groom" and point them to the relevant side of the church, easy.
