just wondering as alot of diff people on here have/do own different cars. what was your age when you were first able to insure group 20 turbos etc.... im 18 and i know ive still got a few years till i can look at group 20's and as weird as it sounds i actually enjoy saving money more that i do buying things.... the waiting is the best imo! so instead of buying and selling and upgrading cars all the time im thinking of saving for a couple of years and going all out and buying a nice evo 8, and in the mean time spend money i usually would spend on my cars and mods etc spend on a house, mothers moving away and im getting money from inheritance from my dads side of the house so wanting to get a house with that, so wont be able to save much tbh but if i was able to put back a bit now and then im sure in a few years i will have alot... i was thinking 21 is when i will first be able to insure things like this but has anyone here insured similar cars before then. and what was insurance like..... also what sort of price would i be looking at on a evo8 with 4yncb ish at 21? i know people cant really tell me exact prices... but just curious... might be a bit of a pointless thread so sorry if thats the case lol.

Really depends how much your willing to pay on insurance!

I said from day one, I will NEVER pay over £1k for 12months insurance cover!

So far so good, now quite a bit under £1k

I was driving a Calibra Turbo at 19. Paid £997.

Calibra Turbo is group 17.

To be honest im glad i did it then, with the price of fuel, insurance and the sheer amount of speed cameras, im personally glad i dont drive anything daily that is "quick" for fear of loosing my licence.

£197FC on a Mk3 Golf GTi, love it (Im 26 now)

My first group 20 car was my M3 Evo when I was 22ish - Cost me about £1300 if I remember correctly. Second one was the P1 when I was 26 which cost me about a grand. Now Im on the TVR and get it on classic car insurance for £335 a year.

Reckon things will have gone up a fair bit these days though!!!

Theres 17 year olds who live by me who drive evo 8's and scoobs.

What they do as far as I know is take out a policy where they can drive any car third party, so take out cover on an old banger and then drive their evo that daddy bought them third party.

thought that third party rule only applied to cars of certain value/power? And only when you're of a certain age?

Yeah I thought that too?! Guess it depends on the individual company then?

Yeah some companies will insure you at that age, for ridiculous amounts though obviously. Just think is it really worth it at your age paying that amount on insuring a turbo car? IMO I don't think it is. Plus, being all boring and sensible, you've got fuel, tax, maintenance costs (ie: services, parts etc etc) to think about on top of that crazy insurance! Would you be able to do it, especially for example if you got a car like an evo?

U need to be over 25 to drive another car when your fully comp on your own policy.

Plus, don't most insurance companies specify that the car needs to be insured already?

I've heard about the quiin one being very dodgy.

I am under 25 and I can drive other cars 3rd party though and i'm 100% sure i'm legal.

You can't drive any car that you own though so the scoobys etc would have to be owned by somebody else.

Also no power/value limitations.

To drive another car TPFT it has to be owned & insured by someone other than the policy holder, I only got it when I turned 25!!

Soem companys do not require it to be insured but the majority do for exactly the reasons being mentioned in here, maybe all do now, was a while ago I looked.
