just got rid of my 2.0 astra sri, that was 136bhp, this is 140bhp in a slightly bigger car, so can't see it being too bad. It's to be a sensible, everyday car I can use in police

Don't do it, Insigina is out in the next few weeks and the arse will fall out of the Vectras, especially lower spec models.

Wait a few more months and you will get that for 7k, wait a year and it will be 5k.

Get a 10k diesel, 1.8 will be pap in every way compared to the turby d.

That does look nice, but its just a 1.8 with some alloys on, which look like they have the correct tyres on for the size of them.

def a good deal seeing as the fvectra is now obsolete when the insignia is launched officially so grab the bargain while you can or wait a few more months and see if you can et it a bit cheaper maybe even a higher spec for the same price

It's a good price, but not unusually so. There are plenty of late reg cars of that type all over the place. They're generally a good buy. Do bear in mind what has been said about the new model.

New diesels rock, if i could afford one i'd love a CDTi 150 in black with snowflakes on.

Mega MPG, 6sp, nippier than the 1.8 (by a fair bit), and a cool looking car, what do you want?

Also, smell like a tractor? who gives a chuff, you wont be smelling your own car? or will you? strange boy!

Sounds like a tractor? thats why God invented the in car music device, turn it up dummy!

And yes, the diesel is the better engine but the cars cost more.

well i respect your opinion, and each to their own and all that...

but i've just got this dislike for diesels. I couldnt give a hoot about fuel consumption. i know that the performance on diesels is alot better than it used to be, i follow the btcc, and seat appear to have proven that.

But in terms of the sound and modification ability, the petrol seems to be the only choice. Although with new cars, there's less and less that you can actually do to them!

Sound and modification ability are not two good reasons to write off what is very good technology. I'm as big a fan of petrol as the next real man but I wouldn't rule out the alternatives. Particularly as most of the time you actually can't hear the engine anyway.

Edit - fuel consumption and performance you appear not to care about - these are worth worrying about?

I was considering a diesel Astra except the petrol car is cheaper thanks to the hoo har over tax. Don't rule it out.

well..fair dos. I may be wrong in my reasoning, and misguided in my judgement, but i just dont see the reason why diesel has taken off as it has.

petrol has dropped in price around mine, but the diesel has stayed pretty much stuck. and they cost more in the 1st place, and if they go wrong. so i just dont see the advantages.

but if you drive like the majority of the population do they are miles ahead of petrol

If you like bombing round and enjoy thrashing cars then you will want a petrol
