This is my latest train of thought. Buy a sub 1k diesel 306 and use it as a runaround and try and save some money.

Now i know that with car this cheap there will be problems with it. Are there any big issues with these cars that people can shed light on?

It will have over 100k on it, but providing the cambelt is done i cant see that beeing an issue.

I know that a couple of people on here have had them a one point or another

because then i have lost £300 I i dont want a total shed.

If i can pick one up for under 1k then i wouldnt say no. and it has to be reliable as it will be an everyday driver

Watch out for electrics, major common fault. If it doesn't work, unless you can repair it yourself I wouldn't bother. Alternator tensioner can seize, also a common problem on these engines, if you can, buy a HDi supposedly better engines, you might be able to find 1 for sub 1k.

if you can save your money, my mate paid £1400 for his s reg 48000k 1.4 merdian

but as liam said watch out for electrics, air bag light, simple fault, but the labour on it would add up £££ remote central locking aint the best lol, and gearbox, 49500 miles his gearbox needed replacing

Try and pick up a phase1 dturbo for pennys.Great workhorses and will go forever if looked after.
I had 1 for more than a year.Came with no service history,no proof of timing belt change.Ran it for a year without any problems and sold it on and its still going strong.
Had it running a safe 1.3 bar boost and it used to go like fuk.Insurance group 5.

Get an old 1.9 DT if you want cheap motoring.
Under £1k to buy, still do over 40mpg, and there's pretty much fuck all electronically to go wrong with it.
I had mine 4.5 years, and nothing ever went wrong with it. The other half now has it, and it's still going strong.
Gearboxes aren't that bad, the airbag light is a common but VERY easily fixed problem (can do it yourself in about 10 minutes).

the man speaks the truth, everything is pretty wank on them, go on 306 forums on the help zones etc and ull see for yourself

they are

cheap to buy
cheap to insure
easy to run
cheap to buy parts for

so they tick alot of boxs for runners but they are a heap
