Right think its time for the 1.8 to go. and im gonna replace it with a nice frugal diesel...however....what to go for?
i have about £3k max and dont want anything with a large diesel engine, 2.0 max!
been looking around and seen a few gttdi and bora's but mileage is like 175k shoud i steer clear?
any other cars to look out for. i keep gettin swayed by the vags!!

My Golfs quite nice to drive. Youd get a 115bhp one for £3k, mileage is generally not a problem, just make sure its been serviced & looked after.

been offered this 2001 130 tdi SE for £3k but its done 173k! 
my dad has a gttdi 130 which is why id love one cos i love driving that!

modded car = likely to have been kicked about, if its been serviced though should be ok

Has to be motorway miles though surely? I've done 20k just for work in the past 12 months mainly motorway.
Personally i'd go for a newish small petrol Corsa C if i had just 3k.

i dont want another corsa...already had two used to have a passat 1.8t and miss the vw's tbh!
that Bora has had 2 owners,i know the 2nd and he has modded it, was standard when he got it! and has Full VW service history!

where are you going to find another car where its got loads of irmy on it plus half leather
madness to get something cheaper then try to whack a set of rims on etc!
the passat should of taught you something

want somethin more frugal. dont care about irmy bits or leather, want something more subtle again. got the 1.8 corsa i wanted for a few years n now ive had it i want to change!

nah too slow. after driving old mans 1.9 tdi 130 it feels quicker when moving than me 1.8 and he returns 50mpg!

looked at a Leon tdi 110, have seen two golf Gttdi 115 with under 140k both for under £2.5k one even had full leather!

There are people on uk-mkivs with Golfs etc on 235k + miles with no problems.
My GT TDi has a baby 85k on it
