Was driving home from uni last night around 11:30, was doing about 40mph in a 30 (keeping up with rest of cars - about 5 cars within maybe 20metres of each other) and i noticed two cop cars at the side of the road.
They had what looked like a camera on a tripod which was about head height.
Wondering if this could have been a speed camera?
It didnt flash - so could it have seen my plate or who was driving?
Would it have caught all of us or just the front runners?

My guess is that it's a laser speed device. Doesn't need to flash.

They perhaps had another police car down the road ready to pull people who sped past taking the piss, I guess you got lucky

I always thought that the laser gun measured your speed, and a camera further up flashed your car... OR that further up the road, a copper pulled you over and slapped you a fine.

No, they take the read, see your numberplate and a photo, saves it and they use either gsm or 3g to send that to a database at their local traffic station, sticks on a server and then letter is in the post. Dont have to stop you.

In the dead of night? i didnt see not photos being taken......
TBH in the last 2/3 weeks that same road has had around 3 evo cop cars on it, looking out for speeders who then radio up the road where people get pulled over. Wasnt anyone else there last night tho.
Maybe the 2nd cop car went after silly speeders, no point in send ing one car after 5 cars?
Just keep my fingers corssed.........

They don't need to go after 5 cars with the technology these days. You wouldn't see a flash because it'd use IR.
