Just wondering if there were people out there who worked in recruitment and fancied talking about it. Just considering it as a career change so wanted to know the pros and cons etc
Cheers

I hate recruitment firms; they will not/do not listen.
I get sent CVs (at least 10 a day) which have absoloutly no bearing on our business. I have told all of the firms that we are nto interested in general engineers/nuclear engineers/fuel/oil engineers etc we only want Marine engineers or naval architects; yet every day I get sent CV's for compeltely unsuitable applicants.
The worst thing was a phonecall and subsequent email I got last week with 2 CVs for Naval Architects based in my area and then sent me my own and my colleagues CVs - even worse I've never sent my CV to a recruitment agency

It can potentially be a good career but you have to be the right kind of person. You have to have the gift of the gab and be fairly ruthless.
My recruitment consultant is very good and really knows his business area.

My Girlfriend done it for about three years and I can safely say she's a far happier person out of the industry. Shit pay/comission to begin with and unrealistic target to maintain one you get into it and earn the proper money.
As said perviously can be a very ruthless, cut throat, industry. Certainly would recommend thick skin with all the back stabbing that goes on.

Not necessarily true if you want to work for the larger companies

I'm not saying its not a skilled job as well because i'm sure it is, it's just that recently an awful lot of people have suddenly became one.

I can sort of see where you're coming from as there seems to be a lot of Cowboy firms started up around Newcastle, personally I would only deal with a reputable company
