So yesterday i popped round my friends house and we tried to find out what was wrong with my engine as its been put into my local garage five times now for the same thing and it still hadnt been fixed properly.
So we popped up greenhithe to a garage he used to work in to get them to pop it on the computer and the fault read "fuel". so the guy basically said that he wouldnt be able to find all the faults with the car so it had to go to either dartford tuners or vauxhalls.
As we were driving from greenhithe back to dartford the car was cutting out constantly. It was really embarrasing and quite scary aswell. When we got to dartford turners they said that they couldnt fit it in. So we went to vauxhalls and they said they would have a look at it for me. They came out and said that the car wasnt showing any faults because it had all been wiped off ( i didnt really know what he meant when the other guy read the fault code ). so i said that it only happened when the car had cooled down. So me and my mate waited around until it cooled down then the car started stalling again and cutting out.
The guy came back out and apologised and said that there was faults with the engine. He also told me that my timing chain did need doing as soon as possible because the danger is my engine could blow. Then he told me that the car was last serviced with vauxhall in 2006 so that needed to be done and then he told me that my exhaust was blowing. My friend told me that he would do the service and the exhaust.
Then i said to the guy well give me a rough price on what im going to have to pay. He then made me nearly faint when he told me it would be over a grand. So now my poor car is sitting in vauxhalls getting itself fixed as no other garage would touch it. At least the work at vauxhalls is under garantee and they didnt charge me for anything they did yesterday and i had my new key programed and they arent going to charge me for that either. I hope that after this my engine will finally be fixed and not sound like a diesel and shake like its having a bloody fit.

Why do vauxhall charge soo much for things
I cant really say what would be wrong with it as im no mechanic but its most likly a faulty sensor which doesnt cost over £1k to fix....
And even replacing the timing belt shouldnt be that expensive....

no it wouldnt. im sorry but ive been looking for other ways to sort it out and there just isnt any other way really that is going to be cheaper than that. Its a 1.2 sxi. Id rather vauxhall do it and its fixed that send it to another garage for me to pay and nothing be different.

The timing chain is 600 to change because they have to do all the tensioners etc. He is going to just change the chain first and see if that is the only problem and then if it is he isnt going to charge me 600. If on the other hand it does need all the tensioners etc doing then he is just going to charge me a little bit under 600, the service is 250 and i cant remember what else he said

Not trying to have a go, but how do you know they have cut the price down for you personally? Just the guy saying so? As the only way you would know is by ringing round the other local dealerships and getting quotes for it

But i dont know him from pennies!
Ive had a stranger work on my car before and he did nothing but mess with the car. He has wiped all the faults from the car so no one can actually tell whats wrong

If the faults where still there they'd throw up fault codes again though so thats not reaaly a problem.

People wipe stored codes so they find the reoccuring new ones.
Some cars dont perform too well when the codes are stored on their ECU's and can even go into limp mode

could have given you the number for an amazing ex tech who has started up on his own in the last year, who 99% would have been able to sort it, for alot less

Cutting out sounds like Crankshaft sensor, especially if it works better when it is cooler then cuts out when warm.
