Planning a new car next year as i'll have had my Astra gsi for 2years
Been looking at Astra VXR's
but always wanted an Escort Cosworth
I went for the Astra last time as it was 3 years old and I wanted something quickish and reliable but it turned out not to be too reliable
spent nigh on £1000 in 3weeks getting it running right, and tbh I'd rather spend that on a Cosworth than another Astra
Whats the pros and cons of both? and what would you choose?
will have around 15/16k to spend,

escort cosworth, wont lose any money.
will be old though, rare, very very likely to be stolen but a massive icon and will only go up in value.

Stupid question imo, why would you choose an astra over an escort cosworth

Yeah thats it
he was rather helpfull actually, the warranty he provided wasn't worth the paper it was printed on, so some of the repairs came out of his own pocket

I'd personally have the astra, it'll be basically brand new and won't be an old escort.

I would without a doubt choose an EsCos! I've driven both and personally prefer the EsCos over the VXR Astra. And also prefer them lookwise as I'm not a big fan of the mk5 general astra shape. Plus as a few people have mentioned th EsCos will hold it's value better too Here's a link you may find useful: http://bbs.rsownersclub.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=41 (not sure if you have to sign up though, but if you do it's free )

i dont think he likes his job these days. he used to be a really happy bloke and super helpful. now he is still helpful but he seems to be a moody bastard all the time.
he's fixed my car over 3 times and my sister just bought an avensis from him, neither of us have had problems with him.

I'd go for the Astra, IF YOU INTEND TO KEEP IT STANDARD, as it will be faster.

Depends what you intend to do with the car!
Astra, if you want reliability, easy maintanance, new car
Cossie, if you got deep pockets, dont get pissed off when it breaks. or planning to build a track monster, but if thats the case just get a scooby/evo/skyline as it will be faster

late spec white escort cosworth with black leather.
easy choice.
the vxr isn't a special car in my eyes.

I cant keep anything standard
I'll be looking at cosworths around the 330bhp mark, if I cant find one, then thats what i'll be doing in the long run with it

I went for the reliability, easy maintenance and newer car choice last time, and it didnt see me any better off
I have a 2nd car if things break anyway, but the point I'm getting at is, I'd rather spend money on an escort cosworth than an astra

I wouldn't go that far as saying it's monsterous! I take it you have driven one then to comment on the FRS torque steer?

Yes and maybe monsterous is a bit of an exaggeration
But I'm just not that keen on them
I like them, and I like the st's even less
but I wouldn t have one

Escort Cosworth all the way.
Small turbo ones are better for driving daily, less laggy.
