I have noticed recently that peoples thoughts on cars are now different to what they used to be.
A few years back there was a stigma attached to people that built show cars and trailored them to shows and events. Which I fully agree and understand, I mean why build a car for it not to be driven?
But just recently I have seen a lot of comments like 'its a daily driver as well which is how they should be'. Now I find this a little strange, I mean does it make any differance if a car is used daily to a car that is only used at weekends for shows and special occasions?
I for one dont really need a car as I have a few other vehicles, so my hobby car/show car will be used for shows, car related trips away and the few weekends when I just want to go for a drive, much like a track car or weekend sports car). Recently I noticed 2 or 3 people implying that doing just that was as bad as a trailor queen and labelling such cars as 'show queens'
So where does it stop?
"Yeah I have a fully modified show car, which I use every day and I do 100k a year in it!! Thats makes me a much more hardcore modifier then you!"
Where is the kudos in this train of thought or indeed is there any at all? Is it the fact you use a modifed car and live with its downfalls daily that makes you better or is it the fact you drive a nicely presented car in good condition which means you have the money to keep it in that condition?
I find the whole knocking show cars kind of funny but also interesting...

My view is if you are gonna plough thousands of pounds into making your car as powerful as the market will let you then drive the fucking thing like its supposed to be driven. Whats point in standing there telling someone "well i spent x amount on this this this" then saying but i don't know what it feels like. Plain silly in my opinion.

Always been the way Matt.
Cannot see the difference between a show car and a super car, each will get used rarely, and each is within the owners budget. But because its £200k supercar, well thats ok because they are rich.????
Donna would use D5 for work every so often, but why ruin a £30k car with stonechips to drive it to work every day, esp when she has another car.....
If you can afford to do it, why not have 2, why spend thousands making a car, to get it trashed during rush hour traffic? Use it as and when its nice.
Not much different from owning a nice sportsbike and having a work hack. Would a nice italian sportsbike last the english winter? Not really, so why not have a cheap bike/car for every day use, and an expensive "toy" car/bike for the weekend.
I call it jealousy from those that do not understand.

It's not jealousy its a simple fact if you are gonna spend the money on making it fast then use it.

I think we all will agree that they should be used but at what level of use? Daily to commute to work or just now and again as outlined in my first post?
As its been said most people with supercars/sports cars have a normal evey day car as well, so its the same thing really. Yet for show cars its now being seen as 'a waste' - I fail to see the differance.

A supercar is a work of art in my opinion. A supercar is something you work hard for if you had the money you would buy one and cherish it its something to be proud of and a reward for what you have done to get it. (this however doesn't cover if you have just won the bloody lotery :lol Anyone can stick a kit on a car clean the underneath and say right this is going to be trailered everywhere as i don't want to get it dirty.

Its all personal choice at the end of the day, if people dont want to drive their car every day they dont have to.

And how is owning a totally customised to the owner any different bar the badge? (not talking person).
Frankly, buying a supercar is easy, anyone can do it.
Building a car, stripping it down, having the PERSONNAL effort, the time, the care, the love, the cleaning, the sorting of problems, makes a custom showcar FAR FAR FAR more personnal and interesting than a supercar.........
Oh look, another Lamborgini, Ferrari *YAWWWWWNS*
What the hell is that car??? Nice paint, lovely interior.. Just the stigma of "boyracer" lingers with a modified car....
You say anyone can stick a kit on, well if its so easy, why is there so much tatty rubbish modified crap on the road?
Modified cars are for the individual, unless your building it for attention, in which case theres deeper issues.

Why use it every day?
Do you see someone who can just afford a supercar, but has always wanted one, using it EVERY single day for work?
No, they will take it out when its sunny, usually at the weekend.
Its jealously, jealously that Mr X can afford to run two cars easily, one every once in a blue moon, and one every day?
Should I tell my dad to use his 1 of 150 made worldwide Benelli Tornado LE's every single day, just becuase he has bought it??? No, it would get trashed, use it very sparingly, every so often, and use another cheaper less interesting bike every day...
Simple logic really, unless your super rich enough to be able to sort out those stonechips, damage etc...
I know, i've waited 6 months for my modified car to be finished, totally custom, then some c*nt rams me. Great, its off the road again, won't get the true money, has to be made the same again etc......
At least if a supercar is written off, its just another supercar, go and buy another one thats exactly the same...

I understand that the time and effort people put in but surely you would get more enjoyment of driving the bloody thing rather than trailering it everywhere, take dav's S1 off here, that has been fully stripped down rebuilt respayed fully restored and he drives it places.

Even on the track that could be seen as overkill by some people.
Car = Drive
If it's sunny, then get it out and enjoy it. What ever you have got.
As for Track cars Vs Show cars. Same amount of money can be spent doing either thing, however a track car won't go "out of fashion"..... Kombat kit anyone???

A supercar is something special and interesting!
A modifed hatchback isn't in comparison, no matter how much time and money is spent it is still a modified hatchback

Iain I think you may have missed the point. We all agree it should be driven but should it be driven every day of the year, and if you do that does that give you more kudos over the next person that only uses it to drive to shows and events

if you can afford to run a heavily modified car on the road all year round good for you, if you only bring it out in the show season good for you. Trailer queens dont bother me only if the car has been restored and they want to keep it mint, you know the type, they have their cars on stands with mirrors under them

Totally agree here. I just don't see the point of spending XX amount on a car to see it collect dust in a garage and come out on special occasions. It's just such a waste- not just of money but enjoyment etc. Fair enough some people are lucky enough to be able to afford to run more than one car so they have the luxury to use another car, but why do that when you've spent time, money, effort getting the car looking and driving the way you want etc. But then again, it would be a boring world if we all had the same opinions and did the same things wouldn't it! I don't think it's a bout a daily driver having more kudos over a trailer/garage queen at all, why should it? IMO I think a car's there to be driven and not wasted in a garage.
*jumps into Fad's flame suit* LOL

My car doesn't get used every day now.
Got another car after it got keyed in a work car park three weeks after a respray
Since then i've had 2 cars. Corsa stays in the garage and I don't leave it in car parks. If I do I'll park it over a couple of spaces or as far out of the way as I can get it
Does get thrashed when I take it out though

Why put the time in making something nice and then get it all messed up by using it all the time. Why not just save it for weekends and nice days when you can go out and have a play with it for a bit of fun. I don't see why people can't see that
