i don't really understand ecu's so heres my question would a 1.4 16v sport ecu work fine on a 1.4 8v sri?

no it wouldn't work mate, are the SRI single point injection?
Are you thinking of swapping the ECU as an upgrade?

na mate i bought a sri that needed an new ignition barrel and switch, but now im worrying about the imob as i now early corsa's have a weird imob

If its just the barrel and switch you should be ok as long as you have the original key with the chip in and the black pickup ring which goes around the barrel.
Do the SRi have the chip in key immobilizer though?

the sports as i see it have the transponder chips so the only way it will work if you have the chip the loom the ecu but then the loom will be different as it be for an 8v spi not a 16v mpi
