Many people do this?

im kinda thinking of taking the corsa off the road when i get my new car and keeping it in my dads garage sorn and slowly converting it over a year or so as a project and then getting it back on the road as a weekend/track toy.

now i know theres mot and tax to worry about but what about insurance?

are low mileage policies reasonable?

No need to have insurance if it's off the road etc.

However, it won't be insured in the garage. You might be able to get insurance on a storage only basis.

As deano says, you won't need insurance, unless its worth something and you're worried about it being stolen or catching fire.

You also won't need tax or valid mot if its SORN.

It sounds pissed up but its cheaper for me run 2 cars than just the Corsa all the time

Van in the week, corsa at the weekend if i can be arsed

£1100 to insure both
£400 to tax both
£80 to MOT both

Spend more than that in juice if i used the LET every day

Yes, you can get short policies, i.e. 6 months etc. Might be worth going to a good, local high street broker to get some face to face advice etc.

My next door neighbour only has 6 months tax on his motorbikes, because he doesn't ride them in the winter. He might keep the insurance going though, because of thefts etc. But as said, you can probably get cover for that.

I run a JCW Cooper S during the week and the Tuscan at weekends (sometimes) Ive just put the Tuscan on a classic car policy so it only costs me £300 a year to insure.

If the Tuscan was my only car then I wouldnt bother!

if you find a good policy you can cover both cars for not much more.

I have:

2001 vectra estate
2004 vectra saloon
2003 polo gttdi
1999 corsa

all covered for under £800.

I run a bike and a car, it's not really much of a struggle so far, but not had the bike long. Most annoying bit is going out in car, reserve comes on, fill up tank. Go home, decide go out on bike, 5 miles down the road, reserve comes on, fill that up too.

But shit happens I'm only young and if there's a time to do it, it's now
