I got banned from ebay for selling dodgy copies of ms office 2 years ago

So I made a new account, my dad has his own account and so does my brother.

All of a sudden, ebay ban all the accounts at my address as they may of been linked to the old account from 2 fucking years ago!

Now the whole household is banned from ebay permanently, and my brother and dad have 200+ postive feedback.

Ebay are fucking idiots.

Rant over.

I've just seen on the annoucements they are implementing this but I though it was being done in 2009?. Something about IP addresses and linking accounts etc..

Have you any way to appeal?

No, just been told that the original account is banned forever, and that the accounts the claim are linked to it are banned for a year, or untill the original account is resolved, but I cant do that as they banned it full stop!

I was banned once for a long time, in the end you can get it re-opened by sending in loads of proof of who you are etc

I already had mine and another account banned for shill bidding. I presumed they'd been doing this for a long time, as it happened to me like 2yrs ago. That's what you get for bidding on your own items. Naughty ebayer.

Yes that's what has happened Jambo

More and more of this kind of thing is cropping up on here, if you do something illegal or against the rules and get caught the people who caught you are neither wankers nor incompetent, in fact they are good at their jobs.....deal with it.

No he's not moaning they banned him but banning all accounts is a bit harsh. If your bank closed all your accounts because someone in the house went overdrawn would you be happy?. It sounds like he accepted his ban and has done for 2 years. It's harsh IMO.

What other course of action is there available for an online auction site to stop rogue traders?

If his brother and dad were continuing selling shite then fair enough but banning them after 2 years is hardly the best way to go. I'm only going on what Chris has said.

You have to remember that they don't know how many people live there. Absolutely impossible to tell without a lot more investigation by them which really they're not obligated to do.

I would imagine any restriction on trading is a good thing given the amount of fraud going on, particularly if in addition to this it actually addresses the problem.

Moral to this particular story is don't break the rules.
