Basically, someone has scuffed my GF's bumper on her car. She didn't see it, but someone from her work did and got the guys number off his van. She rung him and he claimed he didn't do it, since then he has admitted he has.

He said he wants to do a cash job, which is fine. But he wants her to go to his mate to sort it. The address he has given her is just some home address which obviously isn't ideal, as she lives on her own near Leicester so I can't go with her and it seems a bit dodgy to go on her own. Plus it will be a shit job if its from a home address. Anyway I spoke to a guy who does paintwork for my dad and he said she could do to ask for £100, she rung him and told him and he said no, and to go to his mate then hung up the phone.

So it doesn't seem as though he will pay up, can she just ring her insurance company up and get them to sort it or ring the police or something as he as admitted it and he's not willing to pay and generally being a prick.

Sorry about the essay, i'm not clued up on insurance and the likes and my dad is away so can't speak to him or he would have an idea.

Police and her insurance company if he's being arsey about it.

Is the van his own company or a larger company that he just works for?

I have no idea to be honest, she's doing her best to sort it but the guy is just being a dick. I'm assuming its his own van.

If he's being a dick don't even waste time with him, it may be a hassle with insurance depending how it goes but that is what you pay them for.

Police might scare him and the insurance will more than likely want you to have gone to them too.

Just cause its going to be done at his mates home, doesnt mean its going to be a shit job, but i see what you mean about her going there alone etc.

Tbh, police woudnt do fuck all unless SHE seen him do it, some pikey cunt kicked the side of my old car, police were called, my GF's mum saw it, but i didnt, so nothing could be done, arseholes.

Thats rubbish, if the person who seen it is willing to say they did that must be enough, if it wasn't nobody would ever be convicted of anything.

Tell him your guy or you're going official. Police may be interested if he has attempted to leave the scene and not leave details? Insurance can also help, they'll just fix your car and bill him or his insurer. Going official means it's sorted but you yourself will be messed about while they use your bad fortune as an excuse to charge you more for stuff, he's got an alternative you just need to have him agree to it.

Of course they can, they just didn't. For criminal damage you need a loss.

Tell him your place to get the work done or you'll claim on insurance.

He he doesnt play ball just phone a solicitors (before your insurance company) they handle the whole thing, you pay 0 excess, get hire car while yours is being repaired and doesnt cost you a penny!

I did this back in November and Win Solicitors sorted everything for me.

i'm willing to bet he's not insured one way or another.

or he's got a works van but insured as leisure instead of business.

police is the best way to go as he's admitted it was him. ring him up again, get a recording of the phone call, and keep that as evidence if hedenies all knowledge.

I've told her to speak to him again and tell him its going where she wants. If he doesn't play ball, then its insurers/police. She thinks he might not be insured or something as he's dead set against going through insurance.

Hopefully she can get it sorted.

You should still get her to report it to the insurance company for info. only purposes mate. The insurer can still persue a claim for you, but as long as they don't pay out it wont affect any NCD. If the guy is being a dick about it, get a quote from a decent garage and ring the insurers to report it.
