Alegedly, when they wrote off a 747 a few years back, the paid $100million to have the aircraft repaired and brought back into service to keep that reputation.

wing/fuselage interface?
The rip stop panels seem to have failed as well; one has torn diagonally straight across rather than through the perforations

I wonder who's house the bit landed on
Also... looks like wood on that panel that ripped off. Fortunate that no-one was hurt though!

The diagonal tears could be because of debris hitting the pannels as bags could have fallen out, oxygen bottles or fire extinguishers could have popped during the flight.

Maybe some Chinese fishermens boats as it happened at sea...
The panel that covers that area is a composite panel. It will have more than likely been laid up with some kind of packing material like foam in between the composite layers to give it some strength which is why it looks a bit like wood.

Which = decomression. You need to descend to 10,000ft PDQ when that happens because the oxygen masks that pop out only give you about 10mins supply. That and the air rushing in through the hole damaged the floor directly above the hole and cased sections of the ceiling to fall off in the cabin.

Yea, think about it. Loud bang, then emergancy descent. You would certainly feel the descent, it would probably feel more like you are falling from the sky to the average passenger with a little bit of a fear of flying.
