I was lucky enough to be invited by Ford to the Press Preview unveiling of the MK2 Ford Focus RS at Dagenham.

It was a great day featuring a range of cars from Ford past to present that represent the heritage of the RS.

I went there absolutely adamant that I would hate the Ultimate Green that has been shown in the press shots, but I'll be the first to put my hands up and say that it looks good and far better in the flesh!

I was lucky enough to meet and speak to Jost Capito and what a lovely man he is. I was chatting to him about the paint, especially as I was so dubious about the fact that I really didn’t like the green to begin with. And chatted about a few other random things and wotsits also

Anyway here are all of my pictures from yesterday, enjoy!

MK2 Ford Focus RS!

I’m trying to remember all the technical stuff from the day, but as already mentioned a lot of it is still to be confirmed. A few things:

-Engine: 2.5 (5cylinder) ST lump turbo and tuned to produce 296bhp standard
-Wheels: The wheels are nice 19” multi spokes with a small RS badge, and are wrapped in 235/35/19 Conti Sport Contact3 tyres. I asked Jost Capito about an alloy wheel company like OZ being involved in the production of the MK2 (like in the MK1) and he said “you’ll have to wait and see”, so not sure if that means anything tbh!
-Brakes: These looked like a bigger version of the brakes found on the ST. I am not sure if these will be the brakes that are going to be made though. Again I mentioned this to one of Jost Capito’s team (Chris Cooper) and asked why a company like Brembo was not involved and/or if it was going to be at some point and was told they were still working on the exact specification. And if they weren’t Brembo they will still be very impressive in regards to function (?!)
-Gearbox: Essentially the ST’s 6speed box that will be modified to produce a short shift
-Weight: Expected to weigh 80kgs more than the ST although this is still an area to be addressed and possibly reduced
-Interior: There will be Recaro seats. Other bits and bobs include an aluminium gearknob, RS mats with the RS emblem in blue, kick plates with RS logo (aluminium). The steering wheel is similar to the ST but with the RS logo. The inerior is in all honesty a bit bland but when I mentioned this to Jost Capito he said it may be changed between now and when the cars go into production Jan/Feb 2009.

Another thing Jost Capito was telling me that the MK2 RS was designed with the idea of being an every day car to drive, whereas he said the MK1 was a bit more of a "tough drive". So I guess that's worth bearing in mind. Great day overall, I'm really lucky to have been invited

Aw bless you Thanks!

It will be available in Ultimate Green, Performance Blue and Frozen White. Jost Capito and Chris Cooper also said that another fourth colour may be available but it's not confirmed. And then they Jost Capito said, that they may change their mind about the colours all together Hmm!

I didn't like the green from all the pictures, but it does look SOOOO much better in the flesh! Honestly! I was really suprised

Staged lighting doesnt do the green any favours, although I do like the colour.

No doubt I will get one of these to thrash about in, in due course.

Not so keen tbh, doesn't sound as special as the mk1 (too many colours, no brembo's etc) but wait and see. Not keen on the front bumper either.

Yes it does, sorry I forgot so much to add! It's going to be Quaiffe and apparently a better version (?electronic?) can't remember what JC called it.

ididn't see you yesterday jill didn't see all the rs's in the car park though to be fair, was late for work so had to bomb it through the plant

i'm really thinking of getting one of these in green next year instead of a house. i know it's a silly idea but it just looks so immense. and will hold it's value well being an rs.

volvo xc90 brakes iirc, performed better than like for like brembo's and were cheaper as it's out of the ford parts bin.

Yeah me too

I apologise for the pictures in all the photos as the lighting was terrible for taking pictures so it doesn't reflect the paint very well- obviously with the new RS, but the other too.
