if someone selling a car and only has the new keeper bit of the v5c, and says the previous owner never sent the log book off do i have anything to worry about

Yes, technically they wouldn't be the owner of the car?
This happened to me though when I bought my girlf her corsa, I had to apply for the logbook from the DVLA, and cost £25 IIRC!

ok so how do i check if he is the owner as he also said he's not insured on the car so theres no insurance cover note and he only has some previous mot's

Sounds very very dodgy.
The new keepers supplement says on it that it is not enough to produce a v5.
