My gf bought a saxo off a friend of mine, as he had just bought a BMW.
His private plate was still on the saxo, so he went down on monday to the DVLA office to get it taken off.
Now he says the plates and tax disk are ready to go onto the car, but the new documents with the V Reg plates wont be here for 2-3 weeks?
Is that right? He handed in the documents for the saxo with the private plate, so theres nothing for my gf to sign to get the car in her name

When I put the private reg on my own car I went to the DVLA office - they took the V5 off me but gave a slip back saying the registration had been altered. They also reprinted my tax disc.
If you do the change at the local office, it applies instantly. If you happened to get stopped, you have the slip to say so.
Not quite sure how you go about the new keeper bit though

Yes chris that is right, when you transfer a plate over a the dvla office they issue you with a new disc etc then but the new v5 comes from swansea so will take longer
He should still have the green part off the old v5 and it will have the new reg stamped on it untill the new v5 comes through
